I much prefer the 58 due to its case size. The BB isn't too big but wears larger than I feel a throwback model should. The 58 hits the sweet spot.

I like the "smiley" but bought a 58 because of the case size. It wears great.

BB58 all the way, unless you have a 8 inch+ wrist

Agree with the above, the ETA Black Bay wears large. I don't mind the size but it's not for everyone.

I've been thinking about this recently, but in a different manner. I don't like the gilt bezel or dial of the heritage black bay or the 58. On the other hand, I really like the bezel and dial of the Black Bay Blue. I'm trying to decide if I should go full steam ahead looking for a Black Bay Blue ETA with the rose/smiley and slightly thinner profile versus the in house, or continue to wait with the hope that Tudor will release a Blue in the 58 case sometime in the next couple of years.

BB58 for me. I like the looks of the BB ETA in photos, but it wore way too big for my wrist.

ETA has a much better dial layout, more character, and the better bracelet, but the 58 is undoubtedly a better size. You really have to try both on to decide, but if you are OK with the bigger size of the ETA, I'd go in that direction.

I own both and love my 58 but the dial on the BB ETA is stunning and I prefer the bracelet without rivets. Ultimately I think the black bezel ETA model will appreciate significantly in the long run but the 58 is my daily wear/dive watch.

I would so love it if all the aesthetics of the ETA is on the 58 case size....but alas the gilt insert/shield just isn't for me. I prefer the ETA.

This is exactly where I'm at. If you could only combine the two, it would be incredible.

Tried both and just purchased a pristine BBB ETA from one of our trusted sellers on TRF on the eve of Basel 2019. And NO, you don't need an 8" wrist to wear a 41mm watch.
Full disclosure.....not a fan of the Tudor rivet bracelets. Why can't they just put the Pelagos bracelet on these sport/diver models....it is so damn good!

The "normal" BB case just seems too thick for me. I have a GMT II and the slightly thinner case makes a huge difference...i can imagine the 58 wouldbe perfect for me....although i have not tried one on yet. I just hate it when my watch snags my sleeves when taking on and off shirts. lol

Here are some ETA wrist shots. These are now pretty rare although prices haven’t really reflected that yet. Now is a good time to get one. In 10 years it could be a serious classic

No one can answer which is better, its purely opinion. The 58 seems to have a strong following here, but then so do the eta BBs. You need to try them both.

I have an eta BB, so that gets my vote (I'm biased of course). A friend tried it and didn't like it, so he has a 58 on order. I'm looking forward to seeing it and comparing the two.

I’ve got the ETA. I’m sure I like the BB 58 as well. But I’m content with what I have.

Which one have you tried on? I have never seen either one so "better'" is irrelevant.

Define better in your standards?

The 58 is essentially the regular BB with a thinner case and slimmer profile. For an average individual it wears a lot more comfortable. Unless you are someone who wants a thicker and beefier watch then the 58 is probably better to wear.

I won't speculate on the value, the ETA movement was produced for a shorter period of time. It's "rarer" in Tudor's standard but it doesn't make the watch "better" or more valuable. Tudor can discontinue the 58 next go around and suddenly it's another frenzy.

Buy whichever watch you will wear.

Thanks for the wrist shots, appreciated. My concern with the ETA is that it will be too thick and too long lug to lug for me. However, when compared to my 214270 it really doesn't seem the difference is that vast:

214270 - 39 width, 48 L2L, 12 thick, 20 LW
ETA - 41 width, 50 L2L, 13 thick, 22 LW

Can 2mm really make that big of a difference in the grand scheme of things?

It’s more than the case dimensions 39mm vs 41mm. The length, thickness, lug to lug, and the bezel presence ultimately makes the watch feel and wear bigger. On the stats above, all elements make the watch feel noticeably bigger (especially on smaller wrists). That’s why people dislike or like the maxi case of the Sub.

Comes down to personal preference for wearability.

After owning both (7.5 wrist) I would go with the BB58. Such a great size and the gold markers on the bezel are a thing of beauty

For me, it is all about the ETA blue. The white font on the dial is what sold it. Plus I have a bit bigger wrists and like the size, the smile, and the rose logo.

Seriously.. I feel BB58 was made just to please folks who couldn't wear the regular 41mm Black Bay. I mean, think the market its competing with Omegas and Breitlings where 45 or 46 mm is the norm! Now folks want 39mm even for a sports diver watch!
