Is your Day-Date a IV or a IIII?
I’ve just noticed that, on the DDs with the small Roman digits in the chapter ring, while almost all of them show 4 as “IIII,” there are some which show it as “IV.” (A few photos below.)
Is there some distinction of manufacture date or dial type which determines this, or are all the “IV” ones aftermarket or repainted or otherwise not factory original? Or something else? Seems this rabbit hole truly has no bottom ... |

I think it is a stylistic approach. IIII on the tiny rail may look crowded so my guess is they opted to go with the real thing.

Obviously, it's not on the rail...as it is on the dial.
