Should I flip my Daytona for this?
Hi guys, I don't know why this happened, but my previous posting has been deleted. So, reposting again with the same question.
I am considering to flip my Daytona white dial (116520) for either another Rolex or one of sports watches from the Holy Trinity brands. I love the Daytona for its iconic design but just found myself not using the chronograph function at all, which I think it's not value for money. I have 2 options for my next purchase, which is in a similar price range as my Daytona (2nd hand market price) - 1. ROLEX GMT2 PEPSI (126710 BLRO) - $18k-20k grey market price 2. VC OVERSEAS DATE (4500V) - $19k msrp Do you guys think I am too crazy to replace my Daytona with any one of these? Which one would you recommend? and why? Thank you, David |

Nope.
More specifically, not unless you're getting money on top of the BLRO. And no way in hell should you trade for the VC Overseas. It's much harder to source the Daytona, and if you ever decide to sell the VC down the road, you're gonna take a bath. My advice would be to start using the chrono function if it matters to you. Time the laundry, cooking - whatever you need to do to justify it - and enjoy your Daytona. |

Is a 116510 half steel/half ceramic bezel?

A chronograph is a quality complication. Are you considering replacing it with a GMT because you travel? If so, ok. If not, you may be replacing one novelty complication with another. If you value complications, a chronograph is generally valued below only a minute repeater and above a perpetual calendar. At the end of the day, most of us only use a three hand watch with a date complication, so anything beyond that is a bit of a conceit (I am guilty of a chronograph conceit). Wear what makes you happy; after all, we can tell time on our phones...

To the OP: If you aren’t enjoying the Daytona to the extent you though you would (which is very common given how much hype there is about it) I think it makes sense to do a trade for a watch you feel you genuinely want.

EXACTLY THIS... However, I’d have an extremely hard time paying over MSRP for any current production watch... If you paid MSRP for the Daytona, that should make the premium on your alternative choices a bit easier to swallow... Good luck with your decision!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Please Don’t sell your white 116520, its one to keep forever. Save until you are able to buy a BLRO

I don't think either of those are good deals, I'd keep the Daytona. Much harder to get another Daytona than to get a Pepsi.

Unlike others here, I like VC... their quality is almost a univerve ahead of Rolex. That being said I love Rolex too. And surely, if you buy VC at MSRP, you will get a hit if you ever decide to sell.
My suggestion is, if you are a one-watch person, keep/get/trade the watch you like most and are going to wear. If you are a multiple-watches person, keep the Daytona and find another way to source another watch. |

Sure, you can replace one watch that you never needed for another one, and spend more money. What's the down side?

VC is classic and good value for money as long as you get a good price on it, negotiate hard and don't pay the RRP

Not a chance! The Daytona is such a visually compelling watch. It's the top of the pile for a reason!

I’d trade the 520 for either one. What’s the point of owning a watch you don’t enjoy wearing?
The ceramic Pepsi truly is a beauty and wears like a dream. The VC is a step above Rolex in terms of finish IMO |

The true beauty of VCO
Tried VCO black dial at the local Boutique a few days ago, and was really amazed by the mesmerizing quality of that dial.

Are you crazy!! You have one of the most beautiful time pieces in the world. I think you would regret getting rid of the Daytona down the road.

Sell it. Doesn't even have a date function.

It was deleted because the mods reckon you're advertising your watch for sale against the rules. Careful.

Why sell a watch, I rarely use the Chronograph function on my Speedy but there is no way that I am ever going to sell to buy something else, just save and buy a new watch that you like and will be happy to wear, its not about re-sale values its about wearing a watch that gives you pleasure when you look at it.
There is too much emphasis placed on values and not on the pleasure of owning a watch, don't buy for value buy because its what you want to wear on your wrist. |

Keep your Daytona! Your value for money comment would have us all wearing time only watches or no watches( my mobile phone can pretty much do it all). I have a Daytona and Speedmaster and barely use the chronographs and a GMT and hardly ever use the date or the GMT hand. I doubt too many guys who wear Subs and Seadweller's use the bezel for more than timing a steak. Most wear these watches because they like them not for how much they use them.
