Well, do you need a rotating elapsed-time bezel or do you need a watch that has a twenty-four hour hand and can be set to a different time zone?

Do you dive or do you spend a lot of time underground or in regions where days and nights can be confused. Are you a pilot or do you travel across time zones frequently.

Every Oyster is rugged enough to handle most of what most anyone can dish out, so it really does boil down to either functional, useful complications or pure fashion.

I like both and have a Sub (14060M) and an Explorer II (16570) and while I'm no slave to fashion, I like the watches for their ruggedness, history, and because they do look pretty damn cool.

Both are great. Sub rotating bezel comes very handy, for timing pizza in oven or grilling meat.

Personally would pick the Explorer 2 between those two. It’s still an oyster and therefore will survive deeper depths underwater than I can. I much prefer the second time zone and would probably use it as I travel between time zones to get to diving locations.

Of the two, I'd go Submariner as I find the timing bezel more useful than the GMT hand.

Regardless, both are on my wish list and you can't go wrong with either!

Shock horror I’ve never really been a fan of a standard black sub.

But then again I like watches with colour, flare or character.

Explorer is gorgeous. That’s my pick.

Both. I'd go for the Explorer first because its functionality is more useful to me than a rotating bezel. A Sub Date would be my next target. This is actually how my Rolex collecting began (with a 42mm Polar followed by a Hulk).

I think the Explorer II offers more utility to the average person (ie won’t be doing old school diving using an analog watch). But between the two versions I’m your photo, I prefer the esthetics of the Sub C...it’s no slouch in the rugged utility category either.

I have both and can’t decide which I like better. If the Exp 2 was 40mm I’d pick that easily. I wear the sub more, lately, but since this is the 3rd Exp 2 I’ve purchased, I don’t think I’ll sell it.
