Vintage print ads for gold Subs?
I was looking for print ads for the gold Subs, 1680/8, 16808, 16618... and turned up zilch. It seems there were many for the 1675/8, 16758, 16718 etc but none for the Sub. Not one. Weird.
I consulted “the oracle”... ... but turned up only one passing mention... Does anyone have an example of an ad for a gold Submariner? Or theories why Rolex did so little to market these? It seems strange the gold Sub now commands a price premium over the more sophisticated GMT, which enjoyed a higher profile thanks to the bigger ad spend... I guess the 747 and Concord simply provided sexier marketing opportunities. Thanks |
