Yeah all those Rolex watches sitting and collecting dust in the display cases. Their days are numbered for sure.

I agree, I will believe it when the Apple store tells me there is a list for an Apple Watch and a 2 year waiting period

Apple Watch and Rolex are not even in the same market. I’d be willing to bet that 95% of Apple Watch sales are to people who either can’t afford a Rolex or have no interest in watches

I have bought myself an Apple Watch. I definitively can afford a Rolex and As far as I can remember I have loved watches.

Perhaps I am holding it wrong...

This for sure! Every time I interact with an Apple Watch owner, they have no interest in mechanical watches at all.

A Rolex/AP/Patek/Omega is a completely different product from an Apple Watch. I’d be shocked if any owners of high-end Swiss mechanical watches genuinely replace them with an Apple Watch.

Swiss mechanical watches are bought as career milestone gifts, or heirlooms, or jewelry. No one buys an Apple Watch for those reasons.

Oh no. Well, I guess I should dump all my watches and get an Apple watch.

Thanks for the heads up, OP.

Interesting point re the advertising/marketing budget vs true customer engagement (transactional at best with the Swiss brands). I wonder if Rolex could achieve same/better results by further owning the high net worth client as they aim to move further up the value chain? They could effectively create a closed shop for the customers they have in mind while the rest of us simply look on!

I can see Apple Watch affecting Cartier or other walk-in purchased premium brands of similar case shape. People who want a Rolex are crazy-eyed and will stop at no premium to get what they want.

It's mostly killing the sub-1000$ pieces, all your Fossil or fashion watches. Fossil group is largely toast at this point.

I'm not convinced.
There are literally millions of people out there who want a traditional looking watch but their budget doesn't stretch to more than a few hundred bucks.

As technology integrates with the things people use, wearables become a necessity to consumers at all levels.

The Apple Watch is the tool watch.

High end Swiss watchmakers will continue to pivot their brand toward exclusive luxury and jewelry pieces (gold 36mm Explorer).

I can hardly tell the time on some of the Richard Mille pieces because that's not their purpose.

Though not purist, Rolex is playing the market perfectly. Be glad you have one (or four.)
