Getting a "special" model from AD (Day Date Rose Gold)
Hey all!
pretty new to watches and bought my first DateJust blue dial about 2 years ago. I'm looking into buying my next dream watch which is the Daydate Rose Gold with the green dial, however as I'm sure a lot of you experts know, it's very challenging to find in an AD. I just moved to Miami and went to 2 AD's in which both told me that this model is so requested they don't order it specially and basically said I can forget about getting it, which isn't the answer I'm trying to hear haha. I'm sure there is a way to get it, but was wondering and happy to hear from you experienced guy's how should I go about finding a unique watch? Should I just nag the AD every day? Call all AD's in Miami? Wait 2 years and pray something popps up? (Definitely don't want to do that). Thanks in advance! |

Try calling or visiting local ADs and see if theyll order you one or put you on a list for one.
Or if you have another watch in mind you want, you can buy that first then ask for the DD. |

Yeah, try small AD's that aren't chains, but privately owned ones, even if it's a bit of a drive, go out there and visit them, strike up a good conversation with them. They probably get lots of phone calls, but when you tell them that you drove X amount of hours just to see them and put in your request in person, you might get lucky. Miami is full of rich people, so you have plenty to compete against, small town, small AD is the way to go.

For what they are asking on the grey market, you may see if the AD will give you one if you bundle with a lesser watch or a piece of jewelry. You’d be amazed how suddenly one might become available.

Yeah - drive like 5 hours and tell them so they can tell you Rolex compels them to only sell to local customers. I went into a local Rolex boutique, not my normal one, just to look at what they had. They actually asked which models I was interested in, wrote down my info and specifically asked if I was “local”. They told me “no way” on some references, but surprisingly not on all PM Daytonas. Start buying a lot of stuff you don’t want. I can order this watch. But they don’t actually make that many. Also, they can’t tell Me when it’s coming and want full payment.

Or you can go grey and have it tomorrow (although the price is north of $50k).

Rose Gold Day-Date with Olive dial is the hardest to get now. If you don't want to pay premium price at secondary market, you just have to wait. It might take 3 months to 3 years who knows.

yeah, it's a pretty simple proposition. pay grey now or just wait. not much of an in between. some might say go spend a lot of money with an AD on jewelry and stuff you don't really want to improve your odds, but to me that's a ridiculous move. of course, if you plan to buy other jewelry anyway, then certainly use it to your advantage. like most things rolex these days, you just need to decide what it's worth to you and what fits with your desires and your budget.

probably near impossible to get without any purchase history today. easiest thing would be to go grey, there are good grey dealers in miami that'll have it in stock or get you one within a few days. it'll probably cost you more to get it through an AD to be honest

Thanks for all the responses and great advice!
Definitely not interested in spending $10k+ for a watch or jewelry I don't want just to hopefully get a watch I do want and spend another $40k haha. I'll take your advice @MannySDG and go to smaller AD's in smaller towns and I'm sure ill be able to get it that way. Thanks again! |
