Passed on a Submariner, am I crazy?

So, Friday I finally received my 43.5 PO. Like it, oh yes. So anyway, the following day my wife and I returned to the same AD to order some rings we have been waiting for some time.

After that I was walking around the watch cases as any worthy wis would do. In the Rolex section was a Submariner. What?
( double take required). I asked to see it, looked it over for a good bit, tried it on. (I have had several over the years) I compared it to my new PO. After that I handed the Rolex back to the SA. I look at watches as tools by my nature. That's how I made a living. What there made of, how accurate and durable they are, what will they look like when I get done putting them threw the ringer etc.

Having the two watches side by side I just wasn't as impressed with the Rolex. Oh I can just hear the names being shouted and the rocks being thrown already. I don't care about resale. I wear them. So as I handed it back to the SA he said "I don't blame you" and your not the first. He leaned in an said " That new PO is one hell of a watch isn't it"

I just had to agree. Having a PO, the Submariner just doesn't do it for me. Anyone else think the PO is better than a Submariner?
The herd influence aside. Just curious.

In my humble opinion PO is a better watch. I do have both Rolex snd Omega pieces, I just prefer Omega

I have more Omega's in my collection but I would put a down on that Sub ASAP, and sell the PO if needed. It's probably gone by now :)

Totally subjective, as what matters most is how either piece makes the prospective owner feel.

That being said, as the owner of a 116710LN GMT Master II (and great appreciation for Rolex), I now find myself liking the Planet Ocean better as well. Again, that's just me, but the watch checks all the boxes.

If we were comparing to the Deepsea James Cameron I might have a harder time saying that but still stand by it personally, nonetheless.

You did the right thing, Wayne. What matters most is that you're happiest with the choice as aforementioned.

Crazy that you could have made a few quid quickly? Possibly. But, to allow someone else to enjoy it and not risk your relationship with your AD is absolutely the right way. Congratulations on your Omega.

I don’t think you are crazy. Cutting through the Rolex BS, and they are good watches no doubt, your PO is at least as good if not better, regardless what the posers and so called influencers may say. Personally I think you made the right decision on both fronts.

I have no regrets passing on it. In fact it was very easy for me on this one. And honestly, that's not always the case with me.
It's likely they still have it (the sub) as they are closed today. They open at 10 tomorrow morning, I can imagine by 10:05 someone will have there hands on it.

I love the PO and have more Omegas than I do Rolex. But with the current climate I may have grabbed the Sub. Who knows when you will have a second opportunity to come across one.

Not at all crazy. Actually smart since you made a decision based off of what is important to you and what you like. Let’s see this PO…..

Watch buying is about getting what you want and will wear. The PO and the Submariner are both divers but are completely different in wear, feel and looks. I am a huge Rolex fan and currently own 14 different ones and a good selection of divers. I am also a big Omega fan and currently own three Speedmasters, two Seamaster 300's, two Seamaster 300M's and the James Bond 007 NTTD. My Omega's get probably two to three times the wrist time of the Rolex watches and I am having a real honeymoon time with the 3861 Speedmaster. With that said, I do not think it is an either/or choice but watches that can be in a collection together. Would I have passed on the Submariner, I doubt it, but we each make our own decisions. My personal preference is the Submariner to the PO and I have owned several PO's over the years. But that is just me and there is no issue with the PO. Just personal preference. Enjoy your PO.

Outstanding collection ! I particularly like the Tokyo Seamaster ! As for the Speedmaster 3861, got myself a sapphire one 3 days ago and I'm also having a big honeymoon time ! Never owned a PO but between a PO and a Sub, I'd take the Sub any day.

I prefer the PO over the Sub as well. I'm just never a fan of buying a watch just because you can or just because it was in the case. Get what you want.

Not crazy. It’s better to put your money in something you like than what others think you should like.

Yeah you are crazy. But then again I passed on it late last year hoping to get other pieces, which never materialized. I guess the difference is you don't really care for that watch but I do.

I own both and I prefer the PO in the water. The PO is the first watch I take on every holiday.
The sub imo is a slightly more versatile watch. Love them both however. Also I would never buy a watch just because I can.

Congrats on the PO…heckuva watch.

If you weren’t in the market for a Sub, and especially since the PO floats your boat, not crazy to pass on the Sub. It’s amazing that your visit coincided with the Sub being in the case (and that the AD put it in the case to begin with!). Out of curiosity, was it the basic black Sub, or something more “colorful” and/or gilded?

It was a basic 41 Submariner, nothing special.

I've only tried on 1 used Sub at a jeweller. It was nice and all but it didn't blow me away. 300m owner.

Many years ago, I was deciding between a 5 digit Sub and the Seamaster 2254.50 as my first luxury watch. Read many reviews but when I finally saw them in person there was no comparison. The Omega was just simply better.

Not crazy at all! I bought an 114060 in December of 2017 when you could still walk into an AD and buy one. As the market went crazy I sold it last year for an "offer I couldn't refuse". I'd always wanted a Rolex, more of an accomplishment than a timepiece and once I attained it I moved on.
I now have two watches in my collection that I couldn't be happier with, a PO 43.5 (black) and a 3861 Speedy (Hesalite). Don't get me wrong I still admire Rolex and I may own another one someday, but I doubt either my PO or Speedy will ever leave.
Buy and wear what makes you happy!
I'm sure that sub you passed on will make a few people happy, the sales person, the buyer, (turned flipper) and the individual that has been waiting ever so long for it...

PO is a hell of a tool watch and probably better suited to your liking. I would’ve bought the sub though.

If you don’t like the watch, pass it. Don’t have to ask to check on your sanity.
I know quite a few people here who turned down Sub/SD/DSSD after getting call from AD.

Totally subjective, they are both great watches. Sub for me I am not a fan of the hockey puck look. ( and that goes for the sea dweller as well)
