Please critique my purchase - many pictures

Hello everyone - I believe I found the watch I have been looking for, spoke with the shop selling it, and placed a deposit. My plan is to wire the money within the next 24 hours.

I respect the expert opinions on this forum and would ask that you take a look at the information and pictures below to help verify that all seems to be in order.

Thanks in advance!

Chet

I can critique your pictures, 100% WOW, great job!!! some of the best I have seen. People come here and ask if their dads or grandpa’s watch is real, well this is an example of how to show your watch when asking.
Now the watch:
All the papers and goodies, love it.
16710B - Pepsi Bezel (red/blue) correct, great shape
My only knock, It has been polished.
Nice watch.

Looks fantastic. I wouldn’t worry about any polishing, whatever has been done has been done very well. Lugs look great and coronet on clasp looks as new. The date wheel isn’t aligned for some reason but can’t imagine it’s an issue, likely just needs turned over with the crown.

Im no expert on the matter, but this looks as if it is unpolished or perhaps very lightly polished and professionally done in a tasteful and barely detected way. Lugs look pretty darn good. The crown and coronet logos (on the crown and clasp) look super sharp. Only picture left that would be helpful is an image to show if any bracelet stretch, but otherwise really sharp and great condition.

All in all, a great example of a 16710.

Looks great, other than the date not being centred.

To those who can see it has been lightly/ professionally polished, could you help understand what signs give that away?

Comparing it to my BNIB 16600 the case sides are ever so slightly rounded and the brushing on top of the lugs is a little coarse.

Its been done well, however, and I'd be delighted to own it in that shape.

Thank you all so far for all the information. I too noticed the date being off shortly after I posted the pictures and reviewed them. The shop said they had serviced the watch just recently before placing it for sale so maybe this was reassembled incorrectly or maybe the date is just hung while switching? I will check into it to make sure it has been corrected prior to shipping.

Regarding being polished - the shop stated that the watch has been very lightly worn and never polished. They emphasized that their goal was to retain the original finish. It appears to be ok to me although I have no expertise regarding what exactly to look for.

Setting up wire transfer with the bank right now so additional comments are always welcome!

Update regarding date from shop:

Hi Chet,
There is no problem with the date. We went backwards to set at 10:09 for pictures. We always set the time to be the same for all the watches.
It was starting to change the date. We will double check but we had the same question in the past about other watches.
No reason to worry about it.
Thanks, Dan

The watch is in an amazing mint condition. It looks unpolished too! Very well done! It’s rarer and rarer to find unpolished and mint 5 digits Rolex!

Please please do NOT wire money period!!! If the watch gets lost in transit , or seller drags his feet sending or maybe something gets left out of shipment or maybe he sends another piece or maybe just runs off w your 15 grand or sends an empty box you have nooo recourse.Tell him you will pay by Amx , even if you have to pay the discount.if he won’t then PayPal or NO deal . Please protect yourself - you are sending a stranger a box of hundred dollar bills with NO recourse if something goes wrong . Just my educated opinion .

I still find it mind altering that people will buy item XYZ and then present the purchase to the public for scrutiny/approval after the fact.

Ass backwards, but alas - this is a lovely watch.

Wear it in good health.

Fair point VonSlingshot - here is a brief explanation...

I have been searching for a watch similar to this for quite some time now and noticed that the best looking watches with the fairest prices all seem to sell instantly. Maybe there is some notification? Anyhow, this watch was posted an hour or two before I called and another buyer had already "reserved" it. He backed out and based upon my analysis this looked like a nice watch for me at a fair price. I "reserved" it and agreed to wire the money the next business day.

Of course, I posted the pictures and detail immediately to this forum just in case someone noticed something that I had not. Suffice to say, we have many watch-loving people on here with a great amount of collective knowledge. If someone had noticed something within that 12-18 hour window I certainly could have addressed it with the seller or even backed away as a last resort.

As things turned out, a fair number reviewed my "purchase", some commented, and in general everything looked good. Did I feel better about my purchase after asking the forum to look closely and find fault? Yes.

I do hope this helps to explain my decision making process. My success in life is largely the result of asking many experts their opinions and taking advantage of their guidance. Thanks again and best to you also.

I always buy my watches by wire. You typically get a cash discount because you cut out the middle man to avoid fees. Of course I would only pay by wire from a trusted seller.
