Newbie’s first post

Hey guys,

I’m looking to buy a vintage Datejust. I’m slowly learning, please forgive me if I use terms that aren’t the most correct. I would like to buy a Datejust that has a 3035 movement with a quick set date, silver dial, engine turned bezel with a jubilee bracelet. I want to wear it 2-3 times a week and would love to past it down to my son.

My question is how much should I look to spend. Since this will be in the rotation light scratches isn’t a deal breaker.

Thanks!!

Welcome to the forum. With your specific list you probably have many listings you have looked at and have a better idea than us. We can recommend you good dealers trusted here or look over watches you have your eye on. Price is subject to condition and set.

A 16030 is a great choice, IMO. The silver dial examples are common and shouldn't be hard to find for a fair price. With patience, a budget in the $4k range should be ok for a decent example if you aren't looking for original box/papers. If you want to buy from a high-end dealer, you will obviously pay a bit of a premium.

Feel free to post photos for feedback when you find one that interests you.

Pledge members can access the ‘want to buy’ listings and this is where your post should be for the best results.

Take care when buying.

How do I become a pledge member? Do I have to pay a fee?

Thanks for all the replies. I can’t decide if box and papers are worth it. I guess depending on the seller and the condition of the watch will determine if I should get it service. My first and only “luxury” watch is an Omega Speedmaster which I bought used. It started acting up, the seconds sub dial timer was off so I got it serviced after a couple of months of ownership.

Looking for a vintage watch with box/papers adds a lot of constraints for someone hunting for their first vintage watch. I would suggest focusing on condition. If a great watch with box/papers happens to pop up serendipitously, you can grab it.

Welcome and good choice of the quintessential Rolex. Don't usually suggest C24 and eBay but on this model (where fakes are less likely imho, but repainted/aftermarket dials reside occasionally) there are some great deals there... and especially on C24 you can put the model in and filter on dial colours etc etc.

If you see prospective piece, stick it up here for confirmation
