Replacing Previous Purchase with AD

Hi everyone,

I’m wondering if anyone has experience working with their authorized dealer to replace a watch they’ve already purchased. For example, if you had to replace a hard-to-get model like a Daytona or GMT, did your AD make it easier for you to repurchase the same model? Or did your AD not replace your model.

I know these models are incredibly tough to get, even for loyal customers, so I’m curious if ADs have been accommodating in situations like this. Did they treat it as a new purchase or prioritize you since you’ve already owned the watch?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts or experiences!

This might be the most odd question. Why on earth would they sell you it again. Unless robbed they would assume you sold it.

Maybe the owners partner wants the same watch?

Given today’s high demand for anything Rolex, it’s unlikely they’ll sell you the same watch twice.

Op, I don’t think so unless they know you personally and have a long large spend history.
Maybe? with a small family owed AD. Ask them , the worst they can say in NO.

Best of luck!

Makes me wonder what circumstance you're under currently to ask such an odd question. My take is that if you have a tight relationship with an AD and told them (and can prove) that you were robbed at gunpoint, then it's likely they'd feel some degree of sympathy and help you reacquire that stolen watch. Chances are this isn't what happened to you, so I'm going to assume this doesn't apply. If you sold the original watch or given it away, then you're out of luck.

You sold it and now want another? I think my AD would tell you to pound sand.
If I had a watch stolen, I’d like to think my AD would try to help me replace it but I wouldn’t expect any special treatment. I’d be back at the end of the line.

I suggest you ask an AD and tell us what they say.

I’d like to think if your watch was stolen, they’d help you to replace it.

I’d bring a copy of the police report so as not to have them guessing your motive

This is why I insure my watches at market/replacement value. If I had a panda that was stolen, I can't replace that immediately with a $15k insurance check, whereas if I get $30k from insurance, my AD can likely find me something unworn/close to unworn for that price pretty quickly.

It certainly cannot hurt to ask. There was a time when dealers loved folks who traded frequently and came back regularly to buy more. At one time the creme of the crop at car dealerships were the folks who traded every year.

When I was about five my brother took me to Baskin Robins and bought me my first ice cream cone (I don’t remember the flavor, there were thirty-one!). On our way out the door I dropped the scoop off of my cone and onto the floor. I wept. The person behind the counter gave me a new cone and scoop. It’s hard to find service like that anymore.

True story.

If stolen, I could see the AD trying a bit to make it happen but from the manager’s standpoint, its just another watch to a consumer that already got watches.

If you can show a robbery police report or some kind of loss documentation, I think you'd get a positive, sympathetic response from your AD.

This question without any context whatsoever…it’s hard to believe OP has 11 posts and not just this one.

Let me help you all on this random post - here's OP's initial post on TRF:

"I’m eager to hear what the community thinks about a watch trade I’m contemplating. I’ve been fortunate to acquire a few pieces from my AD, including a Black dial Daytona, a BLNR on oyster, and the new green Submariner. A local watch dealer has offered me $28,000 for the green Submariner and BLNR combined. I’m considering selling these two and purchasing an Air King and a no-date Submariner from my AD. Thanks to my strong relationship with the AD and the current market conditions, I could secure both pieces relatively swiftly, which would effectively leave me with an extra $10,000. Essentially, it’s like getting the no-date Submariner for free. I’m curious about the community’s thoughts on this move. To clarify, I’m not in urgent need of money, but with the way the economy is, having an additional $10k in savings doesn’t sound like a bad idea."

So I'm sure he's gauging how difficult it would be to "replace" a Daytona / BLNR if he just happened to sell it to fund an AirKing (LOL).

@OP : All depends on your AD, given you seemed to have luck (if I believe any of your posts) so far, take your chance. Also, welcome to Flip-City...
