Watch Winder

Hi Guys

Got my first Rolex recently after years and years of wanting one, I’ll be mainly wearing it on weekends and the odd evening midweek so I opted for a watch winder after reading the pros and cons and the opinions of people with and without. I mainly don’t want to keep winding it and unscrewing the crown twice or so a week when the power reserve runs out and it’ll be serviced when required.

Question!

I bought the wolf Axis winder which can delay start times and rotate bidirectional.

Am I correct in saying your best having the setting on bidirectional and looking at the Rolex Rootbeer chart 650 TPD are recommended? (Bidirectional in the axis gives double the TPD so I presume I’ll set this at around 325 or the closest setting

Main question is would I just have it set to wind everyday or would it be worth doing a day on/ a day off with having that hold off option on the winder so it uses some of its power reserve and half’s the wear and tear so to speak!(i can-delay the winder starting for up to 72 hours I believe

Thanks for any advise much appreciated!

If you have your winder set correctly then it will keep the state of wind static.

A Rolex needs 650 TPD to maintain its wind, not to wind-it-up. It will wind in either direction (bi-directional) as opposed to some watches that only wind in one direction.

Well you don't need any watch winder with any watch that has a simple date complication. If stored all any Rolex needs is a small wind say once a month just to start the movement. It only takes around 30 seconds to fully wind re-set then go.And the only movement wear I want on any of my watches is while they are on my wrist.Just cannot see any point of running any watch 24/7 when its not needed to tell the time on the wrist. And no you will not put wear on the winding crown or threads. Just think of all the manual wind Rolex plus others with screw down crowns that get wound daily for decades

also, set it to run 12 hours starting at 10:00 AM. This will provide a healthy 12 hour mainspring unwind each night before it is rewound the next morning. It will also stop the winder at 10:00 PM, so if you keep it on your nightstand, it will not make any noise during the night.
