Would you get a new steel 222 if you had this collection?
I’ve been reading the various thoughts and comments on the new VC steel 222 with interest. It’s a watch I’ve been looking forward to since the yellow gold one was released. I have had my VC WG traditionelle for over a decade (from new) and thought the 222 would complement it nicely.
However, now the steel 222 has been released I’m wondering if it’s too similar to some watches in my existing collection (such as the 5711 and green 15510). Thoughts? |

I would. I think it stands on its own vs the 5711, 15510. I mean I’ve seen guys that have an entire collection of Day Dates only, same for Subs. It works in your collection, but really the only two things that matter 1. Do you like it. 2. Can you afford it. The appearance is #2 is covered.

I would. Patek, AP and VC steel integrated covered. It’s a fantastic watch, that’s for sure.

Are there other options you're considering instead of the 222?

Yes you should, as it seems you really like that style.

I’d buy the 222 if I liked it. And I do!

The 222 is not too similar to your 5711 or 15510 and I'd rather have an (in my case ideally original) 222 and lose some of the APs.

Just to add, it makes sense to get a 222 if you want one steel sports watch from each of the holy trinity. As said earlier I don't think they are too similar. For me though the one I like most is enough. When I thought about adding a 222 some 5 or 6 years ago I felt it would not get much wrist time over 5711. I am not a big fan of the 222 remake compared to the original (dial color, date position, movement). Personally I'd rather get a Romain Gauthier C in that price range today.

To be honest, I am leaning towards getting the 222 precisely because I have almost the same collection just to complete the holy trinity of integrated sport watches.
Wished I could get the ALS Odysseus too.... It also depends on what is coming over the next few months though, have some other pieces lined-up which might take priority.... |

If you can swing it, the YG 222 would go even better with your collection.

With Ken (here) first with his collection and being on it day one, and then for me, crazy to see but garyg also registering interest you have some horological heavyweights going for it.
I met Gary once at a dinner and the level of collection he has is insane and he was also day one on the new SS 222. My own instinct on it is YES YES YES. However, I have no relationship with VC so for me if anything it will be an eventual pickup from a TS. |

It depends on what you value. Your watches are a similar in style. The 222 would definitely fit and compliment the nautilus and royal oak. I like variety with different colors, metals, and styles

Also, your various APs cover the different model lines, so I wouldn’t be inclined to get rid of them necessarily, unless you don’t like them as much as you thought. If anything, instead of a 222, an AP jumbo would be something to consider (while also moving along other AP pieces). Ultimately, no wrong choices here. |

Looks like it would be your kind of watch. The bracelet will make it different and honestly the 222 is all about the bracelet in my opinion- it’s so good
