Hummer H2

For the past 2 months I've been throwing around the idea of getting a Hummer H2, but nervous about the future of the line with GM. Now that a Chinese heavy equipment company has bought the line, has anybody heard about the future of Hummer with future sales, parts or service?

No need to wonder about it any more.. Here is an AP press release...

I'll bet that this does not include the H2 though, which was just a body panel Tahoe frame and powerplant.. The H2 will likely be dropped..
..........
DETROIT - Hummer, the off-road vehicle that once epitomized America’s love for hulking trucks, is now in the hands of a Chinese heavy equipment maker.

General Motors Co. and Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Corp. finally signed the much-anticipated deal for GM to sell the brand.

Tengzhong will get an 80 percent stake in the company, while Hong Kong investor Suolang Duoji, who indirectly owns a big stake in Tengzhong through an investment company, will get 20 percent. The investors will also get Hummer’s nationwide dealer network.

There are better SUV's out there.

A lot of them.

The reason I am looking at an H2 is that this would truly be a functioning work horse, mountain roads with 1' ruts, heavy towing. It would be put to the test. I'm not crazy over pickup trucks or these SUVs you always see running around suburban developments.

And wouldn't take them where a Hummer is capable of going (not the grocery store).

I would really suggest another SUV besides a hummer.

A friend of mine has one and the interior seems to be falling apart.

I do like the original Hummer.

The H2 and H3 seem like a compromise.

I'd find a Trooper before an H2 or H3.

But either way, best of luck.

H1- go for it. They are pretty incredible vehicles- I've seen them do stuff in Moab that only rocky buggys could do before.

Anything else 'H'...just a GMC truck w/ a (poorly made) weird looking body. Don't do it.

Justin, your killing me.
Believe it or not, my every day car is a Prius, which by the I think is the sharpest car out there.
I'm 99% sure that getting this H2 is going to be a huge headache with the sale of the company from GM to the Chinese company. I would be pissed beyond believe if I got the Hummer and it broke down and couldn't get the parts.
Truth be told, I would only use the H2 1 or 2 days aweek to tow a horse trailer, some heavy farm equipment or traveling on some bad "farmscape" roads. This is why I'm looking at an H2. Like I said before, I don't like pickup trucks because of the lack of room and there is no way a Lexus or MDF type suv can handle what I need this for.

Jim...I am VERY pleased to see we have a similar sense of humor. I understand. In all seriousness, I would wait and see what happens, or contact GM in order to verify the availability of parts. Have you looked into any of the heavier-duty diesel models offered by ford or GM??? Im not exactly sure of their towing ability, but I imagine its pretty good. good luck with the purchase either way. and if you DO get the hummer..PLEASE post a pic of it on three wheels climbing a ROCK! the only places I see em are in front of the fancy bars and such downtown... drives me CRAZY!

The common notions about guys who drive H2's are:
1) they can't afford a REAL Hummer H1 (not to say that I could)
2) they're trying to compensate for something (heard it from several girls)

I gotta go with a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited as a better alternative to a H2. But then again, I'm partial to my Jeeps.

I use this GMC to tow a 40' trailer with 40 gallons of fresh water, 20 gallons of fuel, two quads and a Rhino onto the dunes in Pismo and have never been stuck.
My friends and I have towed H2's out of the dunes with our GMC's on more than one occasion.

Thanks Justin.
Yes, it's a diesel with an Allison transmision. It has a 4" lift, Bilstein suspension, modified intake and exhaust, and an Edge power command. I only really use it for camping or the occasional dump run.

H2 sucks, it was a fad for OC housewives

H1 is the real deal, IF you can deal with 8mpg and 70ish mph top speed on the freeway ;p

the all around real deal is the Gwagon, a tank that you can use offroad with np, as well as city shopping

I'm a big fan of pick ups, especially if you're looking to do some heaving towing. My experience with towing has been that the longer the wheelbase you can get, the more stable the towing and when you're at highway speeds, the last thing you want is hard to control trailer sway.

My Chevy 1500 is more than capable of towing heavier trailer but I'll always yearn for a 2500HD!

Noway on the H2, I'm partial to a Toyota FJ or a Landrover Defender. Other than that you can't go wrong with a good ol'truck with a diesel in her.

Surely you can't be serious, they are nightmares off the road. Landrover needs to seriously "rediscover" it's roots and go back to what made them who they are. A nice diesel minimalist truck with solid front and rear axles. Here's my cup of tea, minus the solid front axle:

And for the serious stuff:

Forget the G-wagon, Mercedes has allready made the the ultimate offroad truck IMO.
