Which is the best looking daytona ?
I had the good luck to wear my friend's 'Paul Newman; daytona yesterday. However without any prejudice or malice I feel the current model to to is aesthetically superior atleast in my opinon. Basically the current dial has come down from 1990's ? but there have been other dials which I have noticed in books and auction catalogues, pre and post 'Newman' daytona.I wonder which dial is liked by the fellow members. Having said that I would have loved to inherit a 'Newman' version so I could sell it, but in 1950's and 60's my dad's generation preferred the day date or datejust as that is what a Rolex watch was meant to look like with it's fluted bezel. By the way the large watch pieces in rolex sponsored tournaments still feature the fluted gold bezel .

A matt black dial with FAT hands would be nice in the current line up.

Afraid today quite a few call some Daytona a Paul Newman. The only true Paul Newman models are models 6239 and 6241 exotic cream dial non screw down pushers exotic three colour dial and square markers in the sub dials. Many call the 6263 Paul Newman's but they did not come into production till late 1970s and were in production till 1988 but now with screw down pushes. Now why did Rolex stop making these models, well first IMHO they were very very poor sellers at the time.Second they were manual wind and then everyone wanted automatic watches.Third Rolex had never made a chronograph movement they mainly used movements from ETA Valjoux. Its ironic some of the most valuable Rolex today done even have a Rolex made movement.
And no this one is not for sale.

Absolutely gorgeous watch. I'd be hard pressed between this and the Paul Newman. Think I like this better. I really don't care for the modern Daytona. I know blasphemy.

To add to what Padi wrote, they also really weren't that good of a watch! We (my dad bought it new, wore it for nearly 10 years, then gave it to me) had one identical to the one pictured above. It was pretty frustrating when you actually wanted to time something, and you unscrew the lock-down and the WHOLE button comes out! Combined, we had our Daytona for about 12 years, and about 5 of those it was down for repairs.
Sure was pretty, though. Lee |

I think the white gold Daytona with meteorite dial is the best looking, followed by the white dial Zenith S/S model.

I have been loving the panda dial arabic white faced two tone model. I think it looks great and thinking off purchasing it. It seems quite rare as I don't see many members here with this watch if any.

Two tone with a slate dial. The slate really picks up the stainless steel...
