Rsc
The more threads I read here, the more I think it is a mistake to ever send your watch to a RSC. I can not believe all of the little mistakes and errors they seem to make. Datewheels being changed without permission, original bracelets not being sent back....etc etc etc. I think the person you speak to on the phone will yes you to death, and even write up the service order with your specific instructions, and then your watch gets put into the basket to wait it's turn with much disregard to the customers wishes.
Am I wrong? I think if I ever needed service, I would use one of the two independents on this website that seem to be held in such high regard. |

Too bad you can't just drop it off, walk around town and then pick it up a few hours later.

I plan to use the San Francisco Independently owned RSC. Have not heard a bad report yet. Giovanni (the owner) has done so many resizings / given me such great advice - all for free. The fact I can walk in there in person and hand over my watch to the guy gives me confidence...other RSCs, yeah, I would be a tad worried.

I know they put everything online, so everything is there for the watchmaker to see, every petition, time of arrival, etc... but they are humans too and make mistakes... big ones sometimes.

I am lucky--My AD has a watchmaker there who has been working on Rolex for decades --35 years plus--and uses 100% Rolex parts and is awesome! The best part is you do not have to wait months to get watch back--maybe a week to 2 weeks.

Both of my Rolex watches are 1970 models, I have a great watch technician who does a top notch job in taking care of my watches and he is really a people person.

I think having someone work on your baby is much like buying the watch in the first place. You go with someone you trust. RSCs can seem impersonal because you are really talking to a corporation, and not an individual. The ones that feel comfortable dealing with someone backed by corporate Rolex will go the RSC route.
Personally, I feel lucky to be able to deal with someone "in between". RSC SFO's Giovanni is backed by Rolex, but is still independent enough to make you feel like you're leaving your watch with a friend. |

God!! Why, why why did I send my Sub into Rolex for service??? It is due back any day now and I am a wreck! I am so prepared to find lint on the dial, scratches in the lugs and skewed polishing marks on the bracelet! The worst part is that the watch was aesthetically perfect before sending it in!!! PERFECT.... what is it gonna look like now ugh I feel sick.

Prediction - Long before this decade is out, the remaining two RSC's will become warranty only service centers.

I have used Sydney RSC (and other watchmakers) for the past 20 years and have never had a bad experience. In fact completely the opposite. I have always been surprised when getting my watch back in a like new condition. You will always hear the handful of horror stories here because this is a watch forum and everyone is paranoid about their watches, but there are hundreds of successful stories as well.......... |

I think people usually complain when there is bad service, but few will really put up a post when there is good service. I think the information is skewed. I have had good success at the old Los Angeles RSC.

If Rolex did not have such a strangle hold on getting parts, then any good watchmaker could service any Rolex. The Rolex movement because of the design is far easier service than many other movements out there today. And too a good watchmaker its a mechanical movement just like any others.

Why? I'll tell you why
Send the watch to Rolex Germany, Belgium or Geneva and they'll do a hell of a job.
Your watch will be polished and brushed to factory standards, it can't be beaten. The movement will run to factory standards. Yes it's a lot of money but you'll get a full year warranty. Jack |

I used a reputable local watchmaker to have my Sub 16610 serviced. Actually, I dropped it off a few weeks ago and should be finished any day now. I am saving a bundle compafed to the high RSC prices.
