Grandpa's Datejust

He bought it a while back from a vendor in Singapore, and it's a beautiful watch. The dial is perfect, the case is perfect. It's never been serviced yet, but it runs spot on and it's his daily watch. I remember a while back he told me one day he would pass it down to me when I would be older, and I'm hoping this year is the year it happens. I love the vintage look of a watch.

Your family really loves Rolexes. It seems like every member of the KyleL family, regardless of age, has one. What's grampy getting when he passes that one to you?

I don't really know, but I was thinking about purchasing a Rolex for him eventually.

I love the small details like the yellow indices!

Quick, ask for it now before your brother beats you to it

Kyle, beautiful photo! Maybe you will get that watch this year. You look older in the photo that Jocke posted recently.

i also much prefer the vintage look, don't know why but all models look better when aged for a good few years.

very nice watch, Kyle!

I love the steel/white gold DJ's. And, legend that is the datejust always belongs on a jubilee; the most classic of all rolex bracelets.

Before you buy it, get the DJ durability ratings from Gaby. He did extensive testing on the DJ, and found out how well they do during the average day at the office. Pretty interesting findings.

Fact: A rolex DJ can fall 13 feet without loosing time

Fact: A Rolex DJ will loose all dial markers, dial, crystal, and movement if it falls 14 feet to the concrete below.

Fact: A Rolex DJ cannot stop a bullet, but will slow it down.

Fact: A Rolex DJ has more than 100 small parts inside.

Fact: A Rolex DJ has more than 3 ways to enter the case without removing the caseback

Fact: A Rolex DJ can bounce off the ground if thrown hard enough.

Fact: Rolex DJ can be damaged by an industrial size magnet

Fact: The band will stretch if it's tied between two train engines going opposite directions

Last and most interesting fact discovered by Gaby is that super glue, and plumbers tape will put it back together!

Just light humor in memory of the Gaby X-Presidential Model DJ

Wow! A beauty! The Jubilee bracelet is superb, and is that a machined bezel on it? A great looking piece, and as usual a great photo.
Cheers ,
Carl

Thanks David, what really makes the watch special is that it is his daily beater, every time we go out to lunch with the family it's on his wrist.
