Ive had a MB Ballpoint for almost 20 years
And only put in maybe 2 refills in that time.
I was looking at a Rollerball Le Grand BUT I was told the rollerball eats ink and your lucky to write 3 pages before it goes dry. Can anybody verify this before I spend 350 bucks or so. I like the MB fountain pens but at my age its to high maintenance...I just want to write. ![]() |

The rollerball and fineliner do eat more ink, that's for sure. I write say a maximum of 1 A4 (US Letter size) per day and the fineliner lasts approx 7-9 months. Rollerball I would say almost the same.
IMHO MB is really excells in their fineliner refills. On the right paper very few pens give you the same smooth writing experience. The ballpoint ink is also ok, but only the bold refill gives a smooth writing, the M and F gives a small resistance. |

The ballpoint refill has a silicon plug insert to prevent air bubbles... could this cause the resistance ?? |

Funny you started this thread. I have a couple of Meisterstucks just like the one in your picture that go back to 1991/92, which like yours is just about 20 years. One is black/broad, the other is blue/broad and if I'm not mistaken they cost $99 apiece! Not a bad deal considering I have recently paid $85 for a MB pen CASE. Oh the good ole' days.

Greg, each to their own but I find MontBlanc pens to be very good writing instruments. I happen to like the way the ink flows from a roller ball and I too own an older MontBlanc pen Roller Ball which I got from my Dad. The whole pen is stainless steel and has a good feel when writing with it!!!

I go through 2-3 RB refills a year (F point, blue please). I tend to use it daily, but don't write a ton at a shot (lab notebook). For me the feel of the RB is more pleasant than a BP, yet easier to use than a FP.

In my earlier years, Cross pens seemed to work better for me, but as I 'matured' (grew older, body changes, etal...- nes pa ! -) MB' s suit me better now.!!

I love the way the MB rollerballs write, but you are correct. They run through ink very quickly. Just pickup about a dozen refills on eBay and carry one with you. You will most definitely run out of ink at an inopportune moment.

The problem I have had a couple of times with my RB is leaking at high altitude on a plane. Horrible mess.
