Olongopo bracelets
(and yes I know I spelled it wrong in the stinkin title...)
I was stumbling around the Interwebs today and came upon a guy in th PI who makes custom Olongapos that look pretty good. Don't know anything about this guy except that he is well thought of on the military forum. I'm not advertising for him, just providing the link. http://www.mwrforum.net/forums/showthread.php?t=32240 I've run into a couple of old time UDT guys who still proudly (and rightly so) wore their 5513 on one. Anyone here have one or any shots?

Interesting and I have seen some guys on the forum who have that...
Not my cup of tea at all. However, to those who like them...more power to ya!

I have an orginal SS braclet made in Olongapo in 1970, I was a Navy Hard Hat diver and had a mark V diving helmet on both sides. Last year I bought a new one. It was from a guy on the east coast and his wife was from the PI,,the watch band was made in the PI and shipped back to him. He did an Outstanding job and well worth the money.

Does he have a website? I would like to see more of his work.
Maybe sample pics of other bracelets.. I am trying to visualize the potential here. Something about them is cool , and then... something about them is What does the forum jury say??? |

Subfiend has one, it looks alright.
But I wouldn't stick one on my Explorer. |

I have seen a guy with one Offshore, turns out he had it made in the Philippines about 20 years ago on a run ashore, it was pretty cool I must admit.

I really like them, I would not have them on a Rolex myself but i would not mind having one on a Seiko 6105 or a Seiko 6309 and use it in rotation with other watches!
If I would see one on the used marked that would fit my wrist I would buy it, but maybe not go and custom order one for myself! /masterkiller

They were popularized among Vietnam War SEALs - here is a great post showing some of these amazing guys sporting theirs at a GTG where I would not be worthy to serve the beer.

Not good. Might look better if it was a bit narrower? As it stands it detracts too much from the watch itself.

i agree. Maybe look better if the bracelet was narrower. They are interesting. Haven't seen any of our guys wearing them overseas lately. Nowadays, its nylon straps.
