i know this is a Rolex forum,but...

I have been looking at the swiss army homepage and looking at the victorinox watches.I cannot afford another Rolie right now and am looking for something different to wear everday.right now I strap on my 16623 everyday and that's ok.i have a few Seiko's that really don't do anything for me and don't wear them. Also,I am a cashier at Publix and am looking to tone it down a bit from my YM.anyboby have thoughts on the swiss army/victorinox watches?this would be a compliment to the YM.Thx in advance

I had a swiss army watch in high school, it was pretty cool. Not a bad beater watch.

You know sometimes you can spend money on not so in-expensive watches and in the end you could of put that money together and bought something that you would truly enjoy and also that retains its value. There has been some great deals recently on used Explorer's, Datejust's with a cool dial, Breitling's come up really reasonably at times. Maybe wait a little, spend a little more and get something you will keep and not get tired of. JMO

If it makes you smile then rock it. If it is to placate you till your next bigger piece, then reconsider.

TRW, Victorinox makes some very nice watches and would be a good choice for the work environment and then you could wear your rolex when not at work!. I say if you like them then go for it!!!

just get a watch with eta movement will be ok even if you bang it around it will still look nice and decent. victorinox has good looking watches for 1K (ambassador). just dont get those analog digital alien hybrids.

If it floats your boat, go for it.

The Victorinox Swiss Army Ambassador XL, black dial with 6498 Swiss Unitas is kinda cool. They look good and have a display back. Looks a lot like the movement in my Panerai PAM 177 (Unitas based movement). I see them on TZ for around $250. Know that they don't hold value so you want to go used.

PS: I see they can be had new on the Bay for $330.

Swiss army are nice watches. And though I've never owned one, I have relatives that swear by them. My aunt wears a swiss army or tissot more than her ebel even. But I check my AD's estate pieces daily, and I have frequently seen older Rolex's for $1200 or less. So just something to consider if you are looking to spend that much.

Ever thought of a Seiko? I just picked up a "Made in Japan" Black Monster that I should receive this week...$130 on eBay, Automatic, Day/Date, bracelet, 100m WR....

Tim, seems like you've had your eye on a Victorinox for awhile now.
When I was in the Navy, a lot of my buddies were sporting them out. I never owned one. I was always into Seiko's and Tag's back then. Only because the PX shop in the Norfolk base provided great discounts for them.
Before you commit, take a look at the Seiko's (the Monster). I've read they are great everyday watches.
Happy Hunting!

I really don't like Victorinox watches. I love there knives, though. For cheaper watches, I prefer Casio or Swatch.

Tim, I can speak to the Victorinox but what price range are you looking at? That might help with the suggestions outside of Victorinox.

Victorinox have a new range of dive watches called the Diver 500 - excellent quality, great ETA movement, choice of 3 colors and a very decent price (under US$700). A highly under-rated brand, IMO.

they had a great chrono in a past watchtime mag's "back is beautiful" section where saphire caseback movements are celebrated. A nice and robust ETA, and great value for the coin.

I got a Swiss Army Victorinox at Costco a few months back for less than $100and it's a nice watch, especially at that price. It has a white dial, leather strap, big and very legible hands, and nice lume.
