Antiques Roadshow

Ok, so here is the story....

The year, is 1940, my Grandmother (living in Detroit at the time) goes to an estate sale (purportedly from one of the Fords) and purchases a beautiful porcelan vase for $25. Suposedly, she got in big trouble from my Grandfather for spending so much, (that was a lot of money back then) but knowing who really ran the household, she put him back in his place. There were a lot of stories about this vase coming from Queen Victoria's personal collection... blah blah blah... Anyway, when my Mom and Dad got married in 1954, my grandmother gave this vase to my mother. It really is beautiful, with Gold Inlay, and semi-precious stones.

Over the years, my mother has thought of that vase as her financial back up, if anything catasrophic happened she could always "sell the vase." Mind you, she never had it appraised, and for all we know is a dime-store copy worth $10... But in my mom's mind, it was always a priceless piece of artwork....

For about 10 years, I kept telling her I was going to take the vase to the Antiques Roadshow, and maybe we'd be rich... (or, we'd find out it's worth ten dollars). The show will be in San Diego next Saturday and I got me a ticket!!!!!!

Has anyone else ever been to one? Wondering what it was like. Who Knows!? The vase could be worth the legend and I'll get on TV and be rich! (Or they could laugh at me and tell me it's worthless) Either way I'm looking forward to it. Wish me Luck!!!!!

Until you get it looked at make sure you pack it real good so it will not get damaged. I would say it was real by looking at it.

Now put it in a box and just be careful, I have a chamber pot that is over two hundred years old. The thing has made it over on the covered wagon and it is still in excellent condition.

It's got some Mark, kind of like a cresent-moon, very faint, and a hand-painted Rose over it. It's at least 70 years old, but as to anything else, I know absolutely nothing about it.

I have watched that show with my dad on occasion when he is visiting, and it is really interesting. Please keep us posted on what they say.

I liked the red neck that was using a sword for cutting melons. The sword was worth twenty grand. It belong to a General in the Civil war. OMG.

Good luck Paul! I love that show. The best one was a little old lady that brought in a desk...turns out the thing was worth $125K!

Yes...it was from the 17th century and had some sort of makers mark on it that identified the piece. It was those two twin brothers who work for Sotheby's who were appraising it...they were literally swooning over this thing.

Should be an interesting experience.

If you have it appraised with the Daytona included (as in the photo), that will increase the value considerably.

I love Antiques Roadshow, the British one on BBCA is good too.

My guess - and this is a complete WAG because I know nothing about antiques or damn near anything else - is $2500.

Hope it goes well!

I was going to go once but the line was literally a mile long going into the auditorium. It is an interesting show. Let us know how the vase turns out.

Good luck, Paul.

I really hope it's very valuable, but even if it's not, it will be a memorable experience!

Good luck! I can't wait to see it. Let us know when it has aired, maybe I can see it via the internet since we don't get that show here in Spain.

I've heard the lines at this show go on forever, anyway, good luck Paul. It sounds like it should be interesting.

I will look for you at the end of the show when you say: I believe this was worth $30K but the gentleman in
the cowboy hat told me it's worth around $50.

Just kidding, good luck my friend.
