MB put a fine nib on my 149 when I requested a medium, but they are fixing that this week. Now I'm thinking (not too hard) that maybe fine may not such a bad choice on the cheap papers of today. On poor paper a fine may be a medium. What nib are you using on office depot and copier paper? I know it's personal choice but feel free to give me your thoughts on nibs.

I prefer using an extra fine nib in my fountain pens!!!

I like fines and mediums, but MB fines put down a pretty nice wet line. Have you tried the fine on your MB? You may find that you like it. That said, there is nothing like the smoothness and juicy lines of the broader nibs.

Using a fine nib to me feels like writing with the tip of a needle.
It's just too scratchy and it doesn't have the ink flow to give a smooth carriage of the nib across the paper.

I use a triple broad oblique nib. It makes a statement, is smooth as silk and if you practice you can write quite small too. It is plentiful with ink and it just flows so well.

So definitely get something thicker than a fine.

I currently use a medium that I ground and smoothed to more of a stub/italic. I am getting back to writing in italics (when time permits) which I use to long ago. Using Noodlers black it seems to run less.

I have two needle nib FP's coming from a dealer and can't wait to check them out!!!
I really like writing a smooth very small line...when writing.....

Depends on the pen. Typically, though, a fine pt. will do for most techincal jobs and journals. Also, try a Pelikan fp. rollerball--a great choice.

I would choose a medium and have it ground to a cursive italic if necessary. With the medium you would have enough "room" to do that.

Just had one of my 149's reground to the same and could not be happier!!!

I generally like F for note taking on pads, but also frequently use a medium. Either is a good choice, but for signatures I think at least a medium is needed....just my $0.02.
