Icon2 Should I do this trade or not....

OK, setting aside the fact that I said I would never do this and that I may be a little off in the head, all that aside I am asking for your honest opinion. No need to call me an idiot, I already know what I am. So please help me out here.

I would like to know if you would do this deal...

Trade my 67 Meters First 5513 with a 9315 FL Bracelet and a faded Fat Font insert for this 5 Mil. 1680....You guys have seen enough of my 5513, and can search if you want more pics but I'll throw one up for good measure.

Here's the one I'm trading for....

I don't want to say who it is and I would appreciate it if you do know by the style of the pics not to announce it here. I would like for him to remain autonomous for the time being....I cut the name off the pics...

Also, I don't know the last time it was serviced so this may need servicing in the near future...A minor drawback.

I vote no. The patina on your 5513 is too nice to give up.

Is this a daily wear decision, or just occasionally worn and part of a collection?

For daily wear I prefer a 1680. Heavier cased, more secure and solid feeling 93150 bracelet, updated #1570 movement w/hacking feature, date function, square tophat crystal, parts/servicing going forward is better. My main concern with purchasing 35+ year old items such as this is: authenticity, establishing providence, watch band stretch, needed servicing etc, to name a few. Personally, an old stretched oyster bracelet is miserable feeling and I've replaced my 93150's in the past, they now appear to cost > $1K new. Along with a complete overhaul for peace of mind, one could easily spend a couple grand bringing a vintage piece into daily dependable service. I feel chasing vintage pieces is for those with deep pockets with collection aspirations. I'm not a Rolex collector personally but understand this desire. I've owned a few Rolexes purchased new, now vintage and considered grails by some--they are still only watches to me and are used, not pampered as something rare or significant. Buying new is important to me for a daily use item, especially for an expensive watch.

I've noticed recently new/unworn LV's for sale here going for around $5K or less shipped. Maxi dials have the look of vintage. I purchased one last year and installed a black insert, since then have had absolutely no desire to put the old 1680 back on my wrist. Might be a consideration, for the same money now might be a good time to sell/trade old and purchase new especially for daily wear, and make your own vintage.

I vote no, your 5513 looks better and I like it more. The patina is great! Who needs the date? Also, the hands on the 1680 look lighter than the dial. I know that sometimes hands age differently than the dial, but do you know if everything is original?

Here's what happened, if you can understand my mixed up logic. I purchase a 16610 last year and fell in love, but I was really liking looking at the plots start to turn an eggshell colour and I like it and thought about getting vintage. I went shopping, saw the prices of what I wanted and ended up picking up a Tudor Sub, loved it but it still wasn't a Rolex no matter how you slice it. I traded both watches for what I am wearing now. Now I love the 5513, but I find it not a good watch for daily wear, I have to be very careful with it especially with the 9315 bracelet. I end up putting it in my pocket many times while doing work around the house and ranch. Now I want the durability of a 16610 with the look of vintage. The 1680 fits the bill for me I think. I remember doing everything with my 16610 and never took it off. I want a daily wearer and the 5513 just isn't for me.

IMHO sapphire is for daily wear, and vintage is for special occasions/ collecting. I don't see how the 1680 would be different.

Looks like you need a second, more modern watch, my friend.

Are we starting to miss the 16610?

I hate to admit it, but I think that may be the problem....Maybe I should be thinking about trading it for an LV and swap out the insert...

You may have hit the nail on the head...

It may be sad to let it go, Steve. But what good is an unworn watch?

Good luck on whatever you decide on.

I just didn't care when I had my 16610 on my wrist, I didn't abuse it but it was solid and could take just about anything I could dish out. My 5513 just feels like it going to break.

Wanna trade for my Pepsi? I think your 5513 is durable enough, Rolexes can take a beating. My 1675 hasn't fallen apart yet, it feels nice and solid on the wrist.

Hey, Johnny :)

Steve, I think the best is, to get an LV, and swap bezels. Best Idea here. Entiendo que te preocupas por que es un "vintage", y enverdad, yo no lo usaria diariamente.

Well, I'm canceling the deal with this guy. This morning he said he was too tired and would get back with me this evening, I emailed him 9 hours later and asked him if he had an update and he tells me to "Cool it" and "Relax" He has to think it over and look at the pics..Screw him. He said he accepted the deal and now he wants to think it over. I don't play games. I canceled the deal and I'll look elsewhere.

I guess the guy you try to trade with not have close the deal with another guy that sell a genuine short Bond minute hand with correct patina.

I agree you should keep what you already have.....a great 5513 example.

From what I've seen from others, these vintage subs can handle anything you can dish out. I'd wait and not make a decision you may soon regret.

Good luck!

You have invested so much time and effort on your 5513, I say NO! ALthough the 1680 is a great model, you will regret this.

Stay the course and invest on a second!
