Icon14 GTG with Colonel58 & Parisdakarbmw

Chris (Colonel58) and I had a chance to meet, and shake hands over a cup of coffee. He, and I met on TRF, and talked on the phone a few times. We agreed to meet up at some point, and hang out for a few.

Chris is the head of his Purple Heart chapter, and had gone to several states for conventions. On the trip from Florida to his home in Kentucky, he gave me a call. We met up at the local Starbucks for a cup of coffee.

We had a great time. Were both former military, cigar smokers, and watch collectors. It made for a wonderful conversation. I enjoyed seeing his 1950's Rolex with red writing, and the other Leonidas moon phase with pointer date. He also showed me parts of his project watch. Absolutely beautiful parts that will make for a wonderful watch.

He, and I shared military stories. Chris told me the story regarding his Purple Heart medal. He shared the story, and I was completely in awe. I'm glad he lived to see better days. This guy is really cool, and a pleasure to hang out with.

I hope to cross paths again soon, and hope the rest of the TRF family gets to chat with him.

Good times!

I had the pleasure of meeting him also, Paul. A great gentleman who served the country well and continues to serve his fellow vets. Hopefully he can make it to Columbus next month, and if your wife will let you get away while she's in the family way, maybe you can get up there too. That would be way cool.

Chris mentioned the meeting, and I will have to guage things a little better when the twins get here.

He also told me he had met a few of the guys, and we would all get along just fine.

Here's a little secret. I flew to Canada one time, but have never been North past Tennesee.

Might be time to try! What is the day of the GTG?

Officially it's Sat. Sept 18th, but there will be plenty of us arriving on the 17th to get warmed up . That entails lots of drinkees on Friday night, of course. Mike has two threads in the GTG section with details and sign up. You definitely should come if you can get out of Dodge for a couple.

The 17th is the last day of paternaty leave, and there is a UGA home football game I will have to work. I wonder how long of a drive I'd be looking at? I could leave work, and drive straight up there. Let me check mapquest.

I've never met a fellow TRF'r I didn't like.

Hope to meet you, too, Paul.

Hi, Chris.

Edit: 9 HOURS TRAVEL TO COLUMBUS FOR YOU...Pittsburgh is next June!

Total Travel Estimate: 9 hours 50 minutes / 601.44 miles Fuel Cost: Calculate

If I get off after 2pm it would be a stretch.

It would be worth the drive as far as fun factor would be concerned. But I think it would be nice if you could leave Friday morning. Get off work at 2 means you don't get into Columbus til at least midnight, and I question if that would be worth it to you wrt the physical toll.
We did 420 miles one way to Louisville ('course we had to stop often 'cause Craig needs constant nutrition) and I got to say, it took me a few days to recover. But I have 20 years on you

I hope to meet up with everyone at some point. It would be cool to have a central location for everyone. Have a US TRF 2011 GTG, That would be awesome. Maybe vegas?
