i know he eats anything that crosses his path but this is a whole new level.

he is out floating at sea. then gets a bottle full of sh%tty water and instead of drinking it, he shoves it up his a$$ just to get the water.

I see nothing wrong with squirting sea water in your rear to get water or drinking liquid from elephant waste to save one's life, if I had to choose doing any of those things or die...

I'd die.

The problem I have with that show is that while its assumed he's out there in the wild alone, he has camera guys following him. When the camera's stop--- He's off to the Holiday Inn for a comfy night in bed.

The guy from Survivorman sets out on his show alone and does his own camera work.

It's true when he was supposed to be on a deserted island he was on Kauai!

Still I like Bear better than survivorman he is far more entertaining and that's what it is all about entertainment and I saw Bear wearing a Bremont watch that looked so cool I had to get one.

Survivorman is full of very useful information that will save your life but I find it a bit on the boring side.

Whatever Bear G is getting paid, he's earning every cent of it.

I remember the episode where he cut in to a dead camel's belly, took out the partially digested.... stuff, and squeezed it over his mouth to drink the moisture.

I'd rather die.

Knowing Bear Grylls, he would have found a use for that one (and a half) seed!

I study survival as a hobby and have a lot of survival and hiking gear. I also bought Les Stroud's book. I have learned a great many things from Les and I have also learned a few things from Bear. I think there is some tension between the two of them in real life. Bear's show was aired by Discovery channel shortly after Les's series took off and became mega popular. Les directed, filmed, and completely invented Survivorman and the week in the wilderness idea. Bear's show (IMO) was the Discovery Channels attempt to "own" their own "Survivorman" by having the rights to the show that they started. Yes, Bear has some impressive credits to his name but he is still a copy cat in my book. It was only after he was caught sleeping in motels and taking food from his crew and the news hit the public that they started putting a disclaimer on television. They also helped build a raft for him that we were led to believe initally that he built it all himself. In the end, I have learned a few good things from Bear but my respect goes out to Les Stroud for his originality and honesty.

I agree 100%. Les is the real deal. One time I think he was even stalked by a jaguar. Still, Bear is one crazy dude.

Dad's, I totally and completely agree with you; Bear is a phenominal (and probably crazy) human being, with tremendous knowledge and skills, but I have more respect for Les Stroud.

For one thing, on Survivorman, Les is out there, ALONE, running his own cameras. I enjoy that because it's almost like its him and me out there for the week, no support crew, I feel like I am trying to survive.

For another, Les is a regular guy. Oh, he is a survival expert, a LOT smarter then I am, but he's... a regular guy. When Bear comes to a 90 Degree sheer cliff, he says: "I'll just build a helicopter out of bamboo to get over it" Les says: (in not so many words) "This is out of the range of my capability and for survival, I won't event attempt to do something that boarders on dangerous." I relate to Les and try to learn how I would react and survive in a situation. Some of Bears exploits, while very impressive, boarderline on the ridiculous that no person without his experience and training would even consider attempting. Entertaining? Maybe, and for those who enjoy it more power to you, however from a purely survival-learning program, there is absolutely NO WAY I would even consider trying some of those exploits if put in that situation, so I don't find it very helpful.

And, I mean, come on... SOME of those scenes... give me a break. Bear and his crew just HAPPEN to be wondering in to a tunnel in Montanna when a train comes barreling the other way while they're filming... And Bear just HAPPENS to barely escape with his life right in front of the speeding train, and the camera man gets a perfect shot? Uh Huh....

One of Sam Kinison's greatest bits. "Get your s**t and load it up in the U-Haul. We're moving you to where the food is!!!!"

As a teenager, I worked construction in a housing project in a canyon outside of Billings, Montana. One summer Saturday, my dad dropped me off at 8AM and said he would pick me up at 5:30PM. I forgot to bring my water. No car, no cell phone, no one else at the construction site. 95 degrees with heat radiating off the canyon walls. I became so thirsty that I drank from a bucket of filthy, bug-filled water used to clean cement tools. It got me through the day, and I never forgot my two-gallon water jug again.

It can definitely get hot in Biliings, MT during the summer!
