Happy birthday mr bond!!
Wednesday 25th of August: Happy Birthday Mr. Bond!!
Hola Amigos!! Hello Friends! Though I start this thread, I wish to mention that this was a nice idea of our TRF fellow member “Dr. Robert”. Bob has reminded us about the birth date of Sean Connery a few days ago, and again yesterday, he invited us to wear our Submariners today, Wednesday 25th of August in commemoration of the 80th birthday of our favorite actor. I´m very happy to participate in this celebration, as a long time admirer of Mr. Sean Connery acting career, and of course, as well as a long time James Bond fan too. Though everybody seems to have his own favorite interpreter of Ian Flemming´s character, I personally consider him the best Bond ever! I recall viewing my first Bond film in 1964 or 65, “Goldfinger” and getting hooked immediately with this fantastic fiction character. As a matter of fact, in the following couple of weeks, I managed to locate some little local theaters which had the previous Bond films, “Dr No” and “From Russia with Love” showing, to complete my new acquired Bond addiction. Of course, Bond owned a Submariner watch, which was (is) my favorite timepiece. As a matter of fact, I received my first Rolex (a 5513 Sub) as a present from my parents for my 18th birthday, in 1966. No need to say I was delighted to get my so coveted watch: the same as Bond!! Surely, my Sub was a 5513, but I had very little knowledge about Reference numbers or different Sub models at that early time. For me a Sub was just a Sub, and if Bond got one in his adventures, all the best! Following this so nice invitation to show our Submariners to celebrate Mr. Connery´s 80th birthday, I hereby show my 5508, which is the closest thing I got similar to Bond´s watch. I also cordially invite all TRF members to wear and show here, your nice Submariners, of any variant in his honor. This is a 1959 vintage, which came with its riveted SS bracelet, typical of that era, that I changed here for a Nato strap (pardon JJ!!) just for the event. (Yes, sure JJ, I´ll go back to the SS bracelet immediately!). This other picture also shows the only approach I could afford with my budget, to the battleship gray ´64 DB4 Aston Martin of Bond. I wish I could don a white tuxedo (with a red carnation on my lapel, of course) and wear my PPK in a chamois leather holster, everything with the same Connery elegance, to pay due homage to Bond character, but anyway I surely will go home tonight and prepare myself a good vodka martini, served in a deep champagne goblet -shaken not stirred of course- and make a toast to the health of this great actor. It is well known that as Bond progressed in the movie saga, there was a change in the actors who played the role, Roger Moore being my favorite Nr 2, and Brosnan my favorite 3. Moore used a 5513, and Brosnan… well, I like him so much to forgive him for his move to Omega, buy surely would love to see Mr Craig (a Rolex “WIS” himself) to go back to the Sub, or may be to a DSSD, in the next Bond movie. I show my 5513 honoring Moore´s Bond. Now, as a great finale, my whole Submariner Family got together here, to assemble a nice Chorus, to sing the birthday song to Mr. Sean Connery… From Abel with Love… Can you hear them? You know the tune… Please listen!!: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU… HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU… HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. CONNERY… HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TOOOO … YOUUUUUUU… LET´S SHOW YOUR SUBS FRIENDS!!!

It is already in my sights!! Black dial Subs-C arrived to my Country just a few weeks ago, and can be seen in local AD windows very recently. No Green Dial ones yet. I want to see both in my hands to make my mind. An impressive new version indeed!! I NEED one! Very cordially, Abel.

It was really my pleasure to make the introduction, and all merit for the idea of the celebration goes to Bob (Dr. Robert) and of course thanks to all our fellow members who wear their Submariners today to honor Mr. Connery. Thank you again! Very cordially, Abel.

Unfortunately I don't own a SUB, and my GMT IIc doesn't really fit in here. But I thought that since Mr. Bond/Connery is wearing a Seiko in Never Say Never Again, I'll join the party with this newly acquired friend instead.
Happy Birthday! P8253725.jpg Cheers, Joe
