SD Braclet Question

I don't know if I'm being too anal about my watch, but I have a question to ask with regards to the braclet on my SD (Purchased new at AD 2 months ago).

When I hold the watch in my hand and let the braclet hang down freely, the link that is attached to the 6 o'clock SEL hangs nice and evenly from both sides of the end-link of the watch.

However, this isn't quite the case for the link attached to the SEL at the 12 o'clock side of the braclet.

Looking at the watch when it's off of my wrist, and as the braclet hangs downwards freely, it looks like it's a little uneven between the link and the oyster-case due to maybe the fact that the link is either generally bigger/wider than the link at the 6 o'clock side of the watch, or maybe the oyster case wasn't machined enough on the inner left-side at 12 o'clock and the link is rubbing/hitting the case and pushing it out of position and more to the right.

Can someone post a picture of their SD's 12 o'clock position with the braclet hanging downwards. I don't have a digital camera so I can't show mine.

Worse comes to worse, I'd go to my AD and get it straightened out as I'm afraid tighteness of the case against the link may end up bending/warping the pin in the braclet.

That is unless this is just how the braclet was made and considered an acceptable issue and nothing to worry about.

Thanks

I don't have a camera right now but the SEL on the 12 o'clock side of my SD is hanging evenly similar to the 6 o'clock side.

It just be a bent springbar.

It's not the link attached to the case containing the spring bar that's bent. Looking at it more closely, it looks like pin that attaches the first link to the end-link (which contains the springbar) that's bent/warped.

Unless I'm missing something here, if I take this in to the AD under warrantee, there doesn't seem to be any way to access that bent pin, so the only way to correct the problem is to replace the 12 o'clock side of the braclet which contains the SEL and 4 links as they look to be all one piece.

Guys, a better way of explaining my issue is with regards to my 6 o'clock side I can move my braclet back easily so that the links can touch the back of the oyster case.

I can't do this with the 12 o'clock side due to either the size of the link or the bent pin.

Can I take this into my AD (same ones I purchased it from) today without the warrantee card, or do I need to bring the card in with me also? I figured if I dropped the watch off today, I could bring the card in tomorrow when I come pick it up.

What do you guys think?

Hi Kris,

First things first. Have you had any link or links taken off the bracelet?

If not, the SD Fliplock bracelet should have 5 FULL links on the 6 o'clock side and 9 FULL links (including the 2 trapped inside the clasp, but not the FLAT one marked "S") on the 12 o'clock side.

Actualy, I'm still not sure about what you're trying to convey, but if you feel something is awry, I suggest you take it into your AD and he'll sort it out.

Good luck - JJ

All links are present and accounted for. I haven't removed any links, besides, I think the only links you can add or replace are at the clasp, not at the SEL.

My issue is the the pin located between the SEL link that attached to the oyster and the first link that attaches to the SEL. I believe that the pin between the 2 is bent/warped as I'm unable to bend the braclet back towards the back-case on the 12 o'clock side as I can on the 6 o'clock side.

I've shown it to a couple of people. Although the issue is slight, I believe it needs to be addressed and corrected.

I'll be taking it in tomorrow as the warrantee card is at home.

I'll also be going straight to Rolex Canada with it as their offices are not too far away from the AD. If I take it to the AD, it's highly unlikely that they have the links on hand wheras, Rolex Canada would correct the problem while I waited.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Ya, that would be the best bet or just go to RSC in Yonge and St. Claire (if you're in Toronto). For sure they have everything there to get it right as rain. Else go to the AD y ou bought it from.

I just took a look at my SD bracelet. Both sides (12:00 and 6:00) bend toward the back of the case the exact same.

Perhaps it was dropped at the AD,perhaps when placed in the display window or when shown to a potential buyer ? Not impossible.

I prefer the full link on the 6 o'clock side of the Dweller, compared to the smaller link on the Sub.Both my watches at its widest setting and the Dweller, just sits slightly looser.

You obviously don't know much about automotive stuff.

If you go out and buy 4 tires that cost $1000 a piece, drive the car they are
on for 2 months only to find that on the defective tire you now have "cupping" or uneven wear issues, you can bet the ranch that the wear on the other 3 tires would also be affect.

So yes, if one $1000 tire is bad, for safety reasons and just plain good business sense YOU REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES!

You're probably the kind of guy who if he finds metal shavings in his oil during an oil change, would think they were correcting the problem just by changing the oil

big deal......as if u are the only one that know about cars........2 seasons ago, even f1 race cars replaced a punctured tyre and continue to race.....

you r free to replace all 4 tyres .....but the tyre company would only replace the damaged tyre if it's proven to be defective....

so if u are so smart....why not demand a new watch ......why stop at replacing the bracelet..?...let loose and demand a new watch.......

Maybe you bent the bracelet spring-bar while installing your footprint gas pedal.

Hmm.... let's see.... licensed auto tech at 19, trans specialist for over 10 years with more than 2,000 rebuilds, professor of motive power technology for the past 27 years, mainly powertrain and running gear.

Do you think I qualify, too?

Btw, the most common cause of tire cupping is a lack of suspension ability to absorb jounce travel combined with lack of tire rotation.

I wouldn't demand a new bracelet. Rolex will do whatever it takes to make it right, whether it's replacing a pin, a link, or an entire bracelet. They're the experts - they'll know what's best to do.

Hey Kris, you seem to have a failrly condescending attitude towards others. If you go into the RSC with an attitude like that, it is very possible that your desired result will not be accomplished. Regardless, you don't have to get pissy with folks on this forum who are only trying to help.

No one has "lied" to you. You found a flaw on your Rolex, so what. Bring it to your AD and let them fix it for you. It's as simple as that. I can't stand people who make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Kris,

Even for Rolex, there may be some defects that can occur as these are mass produced. Its under warranty, so just bring it to RSC. Rolex is not perfect.

I know you spent $$ on it and no one's taking it lightly, believe me. The good members here have given you their advice

Regards,

Vernon

BTW, chris, the Mustang comment was just a joke. A few years ago I had a supercharged '88LX - until someone decided to rearend it. Here's a pic! ...and the thread's been derailed again!
