What did I do to my pen.....!!!!!
Here in Australia we are a little behind the times.
![]() Montblanc introduced a new ink in January 2010 called 'Oyster Grey'. However, here in Australia, 10 months later the new ink is yet to hit our shores with still no indication as to when it might arrive ![]() So I heard this voice...."Ebay is your friend"....well actually it was an email spam from ebay itself telling me it could answer all my dreams. So $35 and a week later a little package arrives ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh I am so happy ![]() ![]() ![]() Now all I need to do is clean my Montblanc 149 pride and joy with its 0BBB nib and let the juices flow......this is going to be awesome. I spent a good 30 minutes flushing my pen out with water, again and again, until that little window was clear and my pen and nib were clean. However I didn't want to dilute the colour of the ink so I spent another 5 minutes gently pressing the nib onto a tissue to drain out all the remaining water. Looks like I'm good to go with the new amazing ink. Just a shake or two of the pen to get out any remaining water and................. BANG!!!!! I smashed the tip of my nib into the tissue sitting on my desk. I didn't mean to do that and I hope/think it did no harm. So I proceed to fill up my pen with this new lucious ink and all looks good. Then I put pen to paper and instead of it being like music to my ears, it's like an unbalanced needle of a record player scratching across the radius of a record and a scream that leaves you feeling like you've just destroyed your record with a permanent mark that you will hear as a thump on every rotation of the record for the rest of your life. Back to the pen. Yes it was damaged, it scratched it's way across the page. ![]() I bent the tines such that one now sits higher than the other on the face of the page. I tried to fix it but it was not possible. So it's now at the repairers.........maybe never to be the same again......... An expensive lesson......take care of your nib ![]()

Hey Stevo. Yeah I done that too. Realigning nibs is one of the easier things to do with fountain pens, though. It shouldn't be too damaged. |

Should be fine Steve. Worst case - $200-300 for another nib.
It would be much more serious if it's an EF L139 Palladium nib... |

That sucks...sorry to hear it Stevo.
I learned a similar lesson re: the drying of expensive wine glasses (Riedel Sommelier series). Namely- don't stand near the table when you are trying to get that last drop of water off of the interior. Sounds pretty similar huh? Hope they can get the nib back to where it should be.

Yeah Vic I've done something similar to you several times when I've been washing a glass in the sink and hit the spout (I think you guys call it a faucit) on the rim of the glass.
Riedel are great glasses, but unfortunately very fragile, like most crystal. I like the model without the stems, although I don't have any, they look really cool.

Spout/Faucet...call it what you like- amounts to the same thing, a glass breaker!
I've done that too. Now when I'm cleaning glasses I move the spout/faucet over to the other side of the sink. Then, I literally stand in the middle of the room to dry them.

I went into the shop on Thursday and the pen was still sitting there, evidently the repairer had been ill so he hadn't been in to do any work, so it will probably be another week or so

Good luck with the pen Stevo.
I too don't wish to be included in your little black book. Besides accidents happen, and it sounds as though you should be back to writing just like new fairly soon. |

Steve, I trust the repair person will be back to work soon and be able to tweak and fine tune your 149!!!

I just got royally screwed on this repair.
I had left it at the pen shop for like 8 weeks, got the phone call yesterday it was 'fixed'. Went there today, and the guy says, "How is that?" I say, "It still feels scratchy." He says, "I brought it back a lot better from how it was." I didn't reply. I looked closer at it and it still had the tines spread horizontally apart ever so slightly. I got back to the office and checked it under the loupe and it is exactly the same as it was when I took it in 8 weeks ago: EXACTLY!!! $55 later no difference. I thought to myself, 'complete crap' when I was told it had been brought back a lot from how it was..... Anyway, I'm utterly disgusted now. I observed the repairer was wearing a Rolex DD in Rose Gold. He said, "Did you put me onto an antique shop here in the city." I said, "What kind of antique shop?" He said, "Antique pens." I said, "I don't think so, maybe watches but not pens, I'm more into Rolex watches." He said, "What do you think of this." I said, "I can't tell I need a closer look." He said, "Just as well." showing me his wrist. I said, "It's not real is it." He nodded in agreement. ![]() ![]()
