Looking at this 1680.
309xxxx serial
Looks proper in all respects to me but serious questions about dial condition and its effect upon value (and therefore what I might pay)

Can I get some commentary on that?

With reds it really is all about the dial, and this one has seen better days for sure, the plots look to be missing lume, lots of chips and also other discoloration - although that migth be the photo...

As for what I would personally pay, probably no more than about $4k max.

Yes the dial can be refinished, or you could try sourcing a red dial but to be honest if you were going to the latter then I would keep looking for an original one.

BTW What's the price the seller is asking?

It is listed at almost twice your max valuation, and I feel as you do that the dial kills it.

Definitely looks like it was a daily worn watch with the missing dot and wear on the bezel. Then there are the dial anomalies. I would pass on it if you want a collector piece. It would probably be an OK daily watch if there is a good service history and if you could buy it for an appropriate price.

(BTW I love looking at these pics on my iPad and being able to spread two fingers apart to zoom way in.)

if you can handle the damage on the dial...go for it!
...... but there will be a fair chance that the damaged dial will get to you ......to which you can either refinish (which dents value) , go for a replacement red luminvova dial(which do not command the premiums of orginal red subs) or seek a period correct red dial (which can cost between 3-4K for a mint dial)........
