Guys ,
could you take a look at this picture of a watch i saw 2 weeks ago please and give me a guide price on it , it is for sale in the UK and is priced at £8000.
Only 1 photo on website, i have asked for more from the dealer and await his responce.
He tells me it is from 1971 it is not mint but has box / papers and service history from Rolex UK.

Thanks Nicko just wish i had more experience with these vintage pieces as there are so many pitfalls and fakes out there.

It is hard to say without more and better (closer) pictures. Also, you need pics in which the hands don't obscure the indicia on the dial.

Thanks for the replies guys .
I just happened upon it about 2 weeks ago in a private dealers shop that i had never visited before and was checking out some 5513's that they had and a lovely 1665.
When leaving i asked if they had any Red Subs and the lady who served me said that they did but it was sold, but went and got it for me to have a look at .

I was amazed at how light it was compared with the newer pieces i have, but loved it straight away, this is the same one on the website now so the buyer must of backed out.
I would most probably trade 1 of my other watches for it and some cash, i am waiting for them to send more pics and will post ASAP for replies..

Need much better pics and different angles to even begin to verify authenticity and whether the dial is correct for the serial range, bracelet and case back are original, yadda yadda yadda. Impossible to definitively say with just the one pic from somewhat afar and with the hands obscuring key portions of the dial. Also need to see the papers, accessories and service history.

All that being said, 8K quid seems a bit on the higher end of the range from what I've seen on the secondary market.

Agree with above. For a feet first 1680 that is about the right price.

well, I suggest you send a PM to onkyo as he is knowledgeable about 'red' submariners. also, i would get a photo of the caseback and movement if you are serious about spending that type of money, so you can assess any corrosion issues, and study the movement.
looks to be a beautiful 'red'. best with it.

Guys i have just received these shots of the 1680 from the dealer he tells me that it was originally bought in 1971.
First serviced in 1982 by Watches of Switzerland.
Second service by Rolex in 2007.
He has all the paperwork for the watch from servicing but not original papers but has original box.
The dial is original and was not changed by Rolex at service.
States the watch is keeping good time and runs smoothly.
Serial no is 322xxxx
Some pics as well as promised , none of back though .
Any views would be most welcome .

It is in the serial number range

The Red Submariner was produced with 7 different dial versions that have been recognized by the collector community.
The production range of these watches are as follows:

Mark I (Meters First)..........................2.07M...2.2M
Mark II/III (Meters First).....................2.2M....2.45M
Mark IV (Open 6 Feet First)..................2.45M...3.?M
Mark V (Open 6 Feet First)...................2.?M....3.?M
Mark VI (Closed 6 Feet First)................3.?M....3.999M
Mark VII (White Submariner)....................4.0M....7M+
Mark VIII (Luminova)...........................Red Sub Service Dial

The above serial number ranges are guidelines and should not be taken literally, and like a lot of Rolex information out there, may be subject to some revision.

Seems high to me for a feet first. I think you could probably find one around $10k, at least in the U.S. (can't speak for other countries). If you want to check comps, check the "for sale" section of TRF and do a search for "1680." Several feet first for sale or sold there with asking prices posted.
