What should I get?

I want a watch which will depreciate the least.

My budget is 15k so if you guys have any other recommendations, I'd be very pleased to take them.

that is going to be a tough one. it all depends on how much discount you can get.

if you like the new super case/ceramic insert - 116710, 116610

if you like the more original/smaller case and aluminium insert - 16710, 16610

with a budget of 15K, assuming you want SS models, im sure a 116710 and a 16610 is quite possible (discount)? im sure our US members can advise on that more clearly

Surely you want the watch you like the best?? Not the one that will depreciate the least?

Strange motivation for buying a watch IMO.


If there were two watches, one that you really liked the look of, the other you didnt like as much but the experts told you that it would depreciate less. Would you actually buy the one you preferred less??

To be honest, I like all 3 about the same.

Now the only factor I take in as a consideration is long term value.

I suppose that I'll have to guess.... I would say that by the time that one or the other actually takes over in such a race, probably 20 years will have passed. By that time, many more Subs will be sold than GMT's; so the GMT may have a slight edge.. maybe not..

The 16610, having been discontinued and only a 20 year run, will continue to have a strong following and good value. Already the standard ~3500 price tag for a 10 year old example has risen by 500 bucks..........

With that kind of budget you have plenty of room to experiment with each one, if you don't prefer the one you originally select go to the next by moving it here in the sales forum, pickup the next in line and see how it goes. You are in an enviable position, I am trying to figure which direction to go between the 16610LV and a GMT II 3185, but unfortunately my budget is $127.00, I think that what you are going to find is that all the varied recommendations will only complicate your decision. Do your research and make an informed decision, there is nothing wrong if you end up wanting or preferring a different model. Most everyone here started out needing that 1 Rolex only to find out that they couldn't live without the next one. Best of luck with your decision and keep us informed of your thoughts throughout the process and which one you decide upon.

With a budget of 15K, heck you can buy all of them! You can go old school with the 16610 or you can go with the latest & greatest - maxi dial, improved clasp, ceramic bezel, etc... Of course of the 3, one offers a GMT feature.

Which ever you buy your budget easily trumps the watch cost.

If resell value is the only consideration you could gamble on a pristine LV and get a black bezzle insert. If I had to guess, this would be the watch to possible gain in value as it was a limited edition.

In the long term, the likelihood is that they'll all pretty much retain a similar amount of value. In which case, I would simply pick the one I like the most, and no-one can tell you which one is best for you bar yourself

As was stated, you can get all 3 here from some of the trusted sellers. Get some good wrist time with them all, and if you don't like one or more, flip it.
