Bernie Madoff's Red Sub!

Anyone gonna bid on this?

I'm debating...might be a cool piece of horrible history.

I wouldn't pay one extra cent for the watch vs others of the same model. How are you going to prove provenance? I wouldn't mind owning it but would not pay for the opportunity.

Generally, the value of collectibles needs to be part of the item. However, if this is not your theory of collecting-- I've got a pair of black dress socks that Babe Ruth used to wear. And, I can get a signed authentication from the Babe to verify that they were his favorites. What color ink would you like him to use? For $100, they're yours.

Just kidding.

After what that prick did to people who invested with him I just couldn't see owning that watch. It was bought with ill gotten gains. I hope he rots in jail... Mods sorry for the rant. You can remove it. I just had to vent...

Great reply Rags, why delete the truth????? It's not the crooks watch to begin with!! It belongs to 100's and 100's of others and their investments.

My family just happens to have George Washington's original hatchet that chopped down the cherry tree. Over the years the head has been changed twice and the handle three times, but it's still in original condition. It'll go for five figures.

Or is that five fingers, of Scotch?

Do the proceeds for he watch go to paying off all the people he screwed over? That would be like, 1 cent per 1000 people. Maybe that's being too generous.

doubtful, looks like the guy bought it off the police auction and is looking to make a buck off of it.

I am reading many posts which mention bad karma, funk, etc. I feel that is ridiculous. I mean how many people have bent the rules in business or the law or a small insurance scam or hidden certain incomes or tips or trades to save a buck from the tax man otherwise gained monetarily from keeping a few secrets. Here is the simple answer: likely 80% of us or better.

Bernie just played this game on a much larger scale. So did the boyz at Enron. So did the bank exec's on Wall Street who tanked the economy and then your tax dollars not only bailed them out but covered their multi-million dollar bonuses....that has or will hurt more citizens then Bernie's play.

So while I do not condone what Bernie or any of those other scammers did - I think that more people then we would admit to in society look for an opportunity and often we take it to save (scam) a couple bucks here and there. Anyone here a defense or divorce lawyer? I rest my case.

And I would love to own this piece if the price was right!

The BIG difference is he GOT caught. If I know I am dealing with a person with questionable ethics, I will definitely walk away. That's always a moral option for all of us. We are not perfect and some do bent the rules; but knowingly be a part a such history is a no brainer answer for me.

My apologies @Sixxgrand1, but if you were personally affected by Bernie's scam, I am sure you would feel the same like most. Talking about karma - his son killed himself. I rest my case.

And it IS NOT about having double standards or morals higher than others. One has to draw the line and I know where your line is at.

Regards!

1. So did Enron. So did the boyz at Wall Street. Far more people and families and business were negatively affected.

2. How do you know when these people are professionals and have referrals and a positive track record? Many highly educated people went down with Enron, Wall Street and Bernie.

3. Draw the line? Simple - if you risk your cash in stocks or investments - you are at the mercy of people who then control your money. Do I own stocks? You bet! Have I lost money when a company was delisted - ouch indeed I have - but I did not go looking for blood... I know the game and I do not write the rules or oversee them.

Again I am not a proponent nor defending such business practices but in a Capitalist business environment - I summarize with 'watch your step' with your cash..!

Even though I don't condone bending the rules in any shape or form, I agree that a lot of people do it. Not only that does not make it right, there is a huge difference between minimum-wage earners not reporting their tips verses a multi millionaire cheating ordinary folks out of their retirement savings. Let’s not forget Madoff was already rich. He used to be non-executive chairman of the NASDAQ stock market.
