Power reserve gauge...
This may seem like a dumb question... But, why the power reserve gauge on the watch face, looks? Or In case it's sitting on your dresser you know how long you have before it stops and needs to be rewound? Or is there a totally different function for this gauge?
Thanks! |

there are some on the back, but yeah I would say mainly looks and for the few people that never take their watch off it would be a benifit,I also wonder if the design of the movement plays a part?

Pretty much same reason there is a gas indicator on the dashboard of your car :)

I think that's a little different... The watch will run forever as long as it's being worn, so not really a NEED for the gauge like a gas indicator. The car will NOT run forever as long as it's being driven.

I might be mistaken but did I see a Panerai with a 40 hour power reserve meter.
I wondered why you would require this on a watch that you need to wind up every day?

X2. I'm not a PAM expert, but I believe the majority of historics are manual wind and have the 56hr reserve, whereas the contemporary line varies between manual & auto movements.

My 5-year old PAM90 has a power reserve gauge on the front. It's an automatic (although it can be wound manually as well). It loses about 25% of it's power reserve when I take it off at night to sleep, but my normal activity gets the power reserve back up to 100% during the day while I wear it. Its' total power reserve is around 40 hours.
Since I also wear other (non Panerai) watches, I would really be interested in one of the 8-day reserve/GMT Panerai's! Unfortunately, there aren't any Panerai dealers near my home... Any recommendations for "trusted" online Panerai sellers? Steve |
