Were my hands meant to glow
I have a two-tone datejust. I bought it new from an AD in 1987. Where the hands ever meant to glow? Both the hour and minute hands have white markings. I don't think they ever did. They certainly don't now. How many years do the hands glow?

Tritium has a life of around 12 years....so your luminosity would have been long gone by now. Cheers - JJ

"Were my hands meant to glow"
No. The hands on your watch, however, were designed to glow in the dark for 12 - 15 years after which the tritium gave up. If your hands glow, I'd suggest immediate medical attention!

Nancy just bought me a full set of the very latest technology single membrane North sails for this season, so the boat should be significantly faster than last year. She said it was less painful than listening to me whining about how slow the boat was. Our newest sail was a '99, and it was getting seriously tired. Now we're all wound up and itching to go! http://na.northsails.com/Racing_Sail...echnology.html P.S. I'd get laughed out of the club if I showed up sporting a YuckMaster!

Rob,
Tritium is a weak beta emitter with a half-life of a little more than 12 years. There is perhaps approx. 30% of the original Tritium left on your dial markers and hands. Below the 6 o'clock dial position you should see 'T SWISS MADE T' or similar, indicating Tritium activated phosphor. I have a 1991 TT Date which has lost virtually all of its phosphorescence. LMP |

Yeah, as was mentioned tritium has a half-life of about 12.5 years. Tritium itself does not glow, but rather "excits" the phosphors in the paint matrix to glow.
Tritium was outlawed from watch dial around 1998. |

Why was tritium outlawed? I have the T-Swiss Made-T on mine.

My watch does have the 'T SWISS MADE T' markings. I guess it is time to get a 2nd watch! TT Daytona or President??? I really like the watch Ashutosh uses as a picture. But a president with an onyx dial looks really nice too!
