My 16660 had stopped running a month or so ago. I could not get it to start and the winding seemed odd.

I missed wearing it, so even though I knew it wasn't working I wound it up, set it, and put it on. To my surprise, it started running and has been going for 3 hours accurately.

What kinds of issues might have caused it to exhibit this type of behavior?

Loose screw from the auto bridge probably came out floated into the balance stopped the watch then you josled it then came out and it started. IMO Rik Have it looked at

So there could be a screw roaming free inside?

Ditto,

I opened mine up the other day to clean it. One I had just purchased and one of the screws had come out of the auto bridge. It was not in the balance, yet, but it was just a matter of time. Get it looked at quick.

Okay. It stopped overnight. I reset it this AM and tried to wind it. There was a hard detent upon the initial crown rotation with a sort of a snap/pop as the crown got past it.

Useful clue??

Also, where can I take it in the DC area??

The clue is, hack the watch and bring it in for service.

Okay. I was just going to ask if hacking was the appropriate next step. Thanks for that.

Any ideas on places local to me? Wash DC area?

Dude, you have a screw loose and hacking is the correct way.

Good news - local certified Rolex guy says no loose or missing screws or other parts.

Just a watch in dire need of lubrication and cleaning. I'm having him do a service on it.

Got the watch back a couple of days ago. Ultrasonic cleaning, reassembly, etc...

Watchmaker found the problem, he said one wheel was "frozen", and the pivot had developed a "scouring" on the pivot which stopped the whole watch. Clearly due to long-term operation in a bone-dry state.

Watch is running great now!

It doesn't look a whole lot different. I didn't want it polished, so really it's basically the same. The insides probably look a whole lot better though...
