What logic did you use to put together your watch collection?
Hi all
Just curious...did you want a variety of brands/sizes? I put my collection together based on dial colour. I guess there will be some of us that used no logic at all! ![]() ![]() |

I started with colours - my fave colours. Green, Orange and Blue - in that order.
So most of my Rolex watches has green bits in it ![]() Then there are Orange and Blue coloured Omega watches. The rest were just madness ![]() |

I don't know if you can call two watches a "collection"???
But I first purchased the watch I love the most and then it's younger brother.... One for work and one for play..... To my mind the perfect combination..... ![]() |

No logic because buying a watch is essentially an emotional decision.

I'm currently using the icon-from-my-fav-brand method. I have a Speedie for Omega, the Sub-C for Rolex and I'm chasing a Portuguese for an IWC. Also an orange dialed Doxa for diversity.

I just started buying those watches I liked the most. I like them all and they all have a place in my rotation.
So many nice watches yet so little time.

If you have an ounce of logic, so you do not start put together a watch collection.

Well, I'm a bit jealous, because I am color blind. I have an affinity for black because its the one color I can always "tell". But I fell for Chronographs and Divers a long time ago. I'm am looking again right now for something. Whatever it is, it will probably have a black dial.

Only two watches right now. But no logic involved. Some thought, of course, but no logic. The additional watches I'm looking to buy are simply the ones that get me all excited.

I focused on the watch's purpose. GMT II - travel, DJ - dress, Sub LV - Casual, Breitling SuperOcean Chrono - Casual and when I need the chrono function. I've got all my needs covered. I chose the Breitling because the date and the rotating bezel make it a lot more functional for me than the Daytona. watches for me are 75 per cent about function.

I appreciate, for example, a sub collection (1680,5512,5513,etc) but I can't make myself collect something that does not give me a different look on my wrist. It has to give me a different look to get some wrist time. Otherwise it's just a collection (not that there's anything wrong with that

Some very interesting responses so far! If you consider the cost of luxury watches we purchase, does it not seem odd that very little logic is applied in our decision making? It makes us smile so we buy it!
I also assume some people purchase based on the value it will retain as well. |

It's easy...............I collect Rolex divers and I have a BUNCH of them including duplicate 16600s, 16610LVs, and now duplicate 16800s. My prize is my 116619 White gold Sub.
![]() ( I have a couple outliers from a wild craving including a Milgauss, a GMT, and a couple Tudor subs)

To me , there is no logic in paying over 5k for watch(s).
I do like my few watches very much and I would like a few more. I guess I just like them. |

Mostly because they caught my eye, then fell for rolex and have
GMT IIc - as I can't do without this one Daytona for work in a suit DSSD for casual, jeans etc Seamaster Pro for holidays, sports etc where I am more prone to collecting dings and scrapes When I am 40 I am hoping Rolex will have a pepsi version of the GMT Ceramic to add to the collection.

When I started accumulating watches back in 2006, I started out with a series of Timex quartz chronographs. I kept buying affordable watches, until one day I decided I wanted to buy a watch that I couldn't afford and I liked that Rolex so much that two years later I bought another one that I couldn't afford either--214270 and 116200.
Is that logical enough? ![]()

Icons
I wanted to own watches that could not be mistaken for anything else. So GMT II, JLC Reverso, AP Royal Oak, Lange 1, PP Nautilus, etc.
