How MY new Submariner has increased in value..

I know that this post is going to some folk ...Here goes;
I got my 2008 LV back in November 2008 (M). The retail price then for one was £3,670. I went to my local AD with my friend who had this amount's worth of Tesco club points that he can spend at a certain RolexAD Jewelers. I purchased his Submariner there and then for £2950 and also ordered an original black insert (for £30). My intention was to have it as a design icon and piece of art and would break it out of it's box, rip the stickers off and have it as my daily wearer when I felt it is time...However, the regular price increases and the now unavailability of this model has pushed market prices for these unworn ones to over £4k and rising...This means, whilst lying in it's box it has been increasing in value at approximately £1.30/day (based on a cash offer i have had for my watch) How about that

I easily get more than £1.30 per day worth of enjoyment from wearing my Rolex watches.

I started with wanting to making a few bucks now I appreciate the real beauty of a Rolex and I could never just look at it as an investment. I hope the day comes soon where you can put it on your wrist and enjoy. After all its just money......

Enjoy what God has given you, especially when it comes to a Rolex.....

Great, I guess, though after a quick read I don't get it. Maybe I'll go back and get my economics degree....

Meanwhile, I for one have very little interest in the potential for increased value of my humble three watch collection. I bought them to wear them, not to crunch numbers over, hoping and praying they might go up in value.

BUT, good for you, really glad this news makes you happy.

I wouldn't count of that to keep happening forever, soon the hype will die down and it will steady out.

There were many, many thousands of the LV made, so you might want to start wearing it so you get your monies worth down the road.

Shaun, if that makes you happy...more power to you. I bought my Rolexes to wear and enjoy not as an investment. But yes, with price increases they do have a habit of going up in price!!!

Yeah, the mooning icon puzzles me too. Who are you "nyah nyah"ing? Those of us who buy for the pleasure of owning and using the watch aren't really your audience.

And the simple reality for any Rolex owner is, if you bought then vs. now, you're ahead.

I would never consider any high-end watch a financial "investment". I have to admit that I have claimed just that on more than one occasion when justifying a new acquisition to my darling wife ;-)

X2. A Rolex is for wearing and not all about £££$$$$ its sad today that IMHO thats what most just think about with Rolex today.Gone is buying a Rolex Knowing you bought one of the finest watches on this planet. And with just a little care from its owner it would last a life time and beyond.Today not many are interested in the real history of Rolex all they thing of is will this or that go up in value.IMHO a Rolex is more than just a ££££$$$$$$$ object its a watch for wearing and with a lot of history behind the brand..

I've wanted a Submariner since I was eleven in 1977..I do know a thing or two about Submariners (much from you folk too)I will be wearing my Submariner as my daily as stated in my first post...I didn't buy my Rolex as an investment...Just really enjoying it in my particular way...It's the long beginning of my lifetime relationship with it..The moon is to folk who criticize the way others want to do things...I have other watches that I do wear and enjoy, so I don't have a sense of missing out on anything...

Yeah nice one Johny, that made me smile...
I was also merely illustrating the fact that IT IS possible to buy a new Rolex as an investment of sort if that is your bag (There are a lot of people who ask whether it is possible).

i know but i am serious. you are getting to see/use it visually but still keep it as a bnib watch. you wouldnt be the only one who does it. thats what those glass watch cases are for.

who's the mooning aimed at then??????

anyway, there is, to be honest a bit of a point here..... if... should the unforseen unfortunatly happen at least with a rolex you would be able to cash in without making too much of a loss on most models and some will fetch a little more and a select few will fetch a lot more....

my 2cents on this.... i have a couple of rules when buying a watch.....

personally, like most i buy a watch to tell the time which means waring it.... IF

1. i like it and i want it.
2. the missus likes it (rule 1 applies if rule 2 is rejected)
3. i can afford it.

Congratulations, old son, you are a caption of industry. If everyone had your investment skills, the world would not have gotten embroiled in a market meltdown in 2008.
