Just got a 116613 and wanted input on how long everyone's lume on their Sub C's last...SS or TT models

It appears mine doesn't last brightly' anymore than 1-2 hours..a little better than my GMT 2C

-Just read from Rolex site on the new Explorer II lume going for 8hrs..so was curious if they are using new materials in the Chromalight,etc??

I would be curious to know if new materials in the Explorer II as well because my SubC only lasts a couple hours as well.

Never bothered to look or test any lume on Rolex or any other watch.To me the lume is very secondary, when you get to a mature age at night you want to be getting as much sleep as possible.And not looking how your watch glows in the dark if at all.And even with watches with no lume have never had a problem to read the time, as long as I was awake, and really needed to know the time.

Good for you, Padi! Then there are those of us who need to use the "facilities" in the middle of the night. Kind of nice to be able to tell time from the watch in the dark.

Lune is imperative to me and a deal breaker. The SubC and the DSSD are the only Rolex I've owned that has sufficient lume. Sure, by morning it isn't terribly bright but it does the job.

I guess they put it there for those who do find it useful. I just wish it worked a bit better.

If I wake up in the middle of the night I can easily read the time ( once my eyes lose their blurriness!)

All night and half the day. Seriously, it's better than the older Rolexes I have. I can read it all night, (supposing I wanted to).

Lume was actually a dealbreaker for me when I was looking for my "perfect watch"; however, now that I own a watch with decent lume, I find that I never use it. Go figure. I guess it's nice to know I could use it if I ever needed to... I guess...

Rolex has never been known for fantastic lume. You'll need to go to Omega, Seiko, or Ball for that. My Sub C is OK for lume. It still faintly glows well into the early morning hours on my nightstand so it is readable throughout the night. If I really need / want lume, I turn to my Ball watches with Tritium tubes. Nothing beats that.

Sub C is okay, like the above poster said.

If I've been outside on a sunny day, the lume will be "low" in a couple of hours.

My 16610 stays bright until it turns dark. Seriously, it is hard to quanify. How long was it charged? What type of light charged it sun, incadensent, led, etc.? Are you eyes adjusted to dark? If you leave a bright room it may appear dark. Give your eyes a few minute to adjust and it glows bright. Too many variables.

I own few rolexes (include SUB C LV and GMT2C other owner mentioned above) and few Panerais, rolex's lume can't compare to panerai, not even close.

What luminous material does Panerai use that gives it more stamina? Or is it the sheer surface area of the lume?

My GMTIIC only lasts a few hours but I'm rarely awake long enough to see it fade.....

Mine lasts through the night. Long enough, unless you're spelunking and get lost, in which case well, that'd be the least of your worries.

The brightest watch I ever had was a Luminox. Didn't even need a flashlight when wearing it!
