My first Rolex - which one to pick?

Hi, I used to work for a second hand dealer and I instantly fell in love with Rolex.

Now I finally got the money for it but I dont know which one to choose.

I already have a Franck Muller dress watch so I am thinking that I want something a bit more bling.

I have for some months now considered the following:

Turn-O-Graph SS blue dial
Rolex Sub 5513
Explorer I or II
GMT SS IIc
or perhaps a no date SUB

Any info or in sight is appreciated.

Did any of you buy a watch and then changed your mind afterwards?

If you want the ultimate all-round Rolex, then the GMT IIc is your friend. Sums up everything that's great about a modern Rolex, IMO. Looks great, feels great, practical and versatile, I don't think there's much more you can ask for from a watch

I think for more bling it is the GMT IIc. My next Rolex will be that model as well. My first (and only) Rolex is an Explorer (36mm) and I absolutely love it. It is a beautiful watch that sang to me when I first saw it. It is also nice and subtle. Like you, I wanted a little more presence and I think the GMTIIc will fit that nicely.

Can't offer any advice as of which you should choose, I'd only say to savour the moment, nothing beats the feeling of buying your first Rolex

I am strongly considering getting a no date model. It saves you lots of dollars and to me a 14060 is much more beautiful than a 16610.

However I dont know if I can live without the date? Any thoughs

and thanks a lot for insights...

I have a feeling this forum will "steal" lots of time in the future :)

Mess up the date on your current watch by setting to a random day. Wear it this way for the next few weeks and see how you feel about not having a date on your watch.
I'm trying this out. My watch is telling me that today is the 7th LOL. Everytime I look at it I have to remember the date for myself. So far so good (mostly).

Well a no date sub is very short on bling, so keep that in mind.
This isn't a very focused list.
1. Do you want a date on your watch?
2. What dial color do you prefer?
3. Do you want something primarily sporty or primarily dressy?
4. Would you get more use out of a timing bezel or additional timezones?
5. Do you want a watch that is easily recognizable as a Rolex, or do you prefer to fly under the radar?
