Been thinking of adding a subC to my collection. I now find I'm top of the list at my local AD for a black face daytona ss, maybe it's worth the wait for the daytona...? The daytona ss is more sort after and holds it's value better than most new rolex watches, your thought please...!

Okay, I will start by saying the Subc is a great watch! I have just bought the new ceramic green sub c and I love it.

As for the Daytona, I'm also on a waiting list for the watch to arrive. I would never by a watch on what it will be worth later on in life. Always make sure you buy the watch which sings out to you most...

My advice would be is to wait until the Daytona has arrived in store for you to go and view, compare the watch to the subc and see which you prefer

If you choose to go for the Daytona, i'm sure your AD will soon find somebody else further down the waiting list

Both awesome watches to add to any collection. Definitely try both on to see which jumps at you more.

I also agree you need to try both on and see what you like the best. For me the no date feature on the Daytona is a deal breaker for me. I had 2 of them and never realized how often I am checking my watch for the date. I personally love the sub c. IMO it is a better watch but again this is only my opinion. Good luck

Sub-C would be my choice with no reservation (I prefer the date function)! I am personally still shocked there are waiting lists out there for modern day Daytona timepieces, there are a dime a dozen here at NYC AD's...

For me, it`s a no-brainer decision, Daytona all the way.

But, of course, it`s all matter of personal taste...and Sub C is for sure magnificent watch.

Depends on what else is in your collection, who you are, what you do for a living etc, etc, etc.

I've got a few Rolex divers, including the SubC which is my fav diving watch out there, but I just took delivery of a black face Daytona last week - sitting on my wrist every minute since...

I would go for the Daytona. My choice aside, being that both watches are beautiful, which functions would you use more? Would the date on the Submariner or the chronograph on the Daytona be most useful to you? That might be a good place to start.

Sub-C for me. I prefer the look of the Subs over the Daytona as well as use the date function regularly.

I have posted a couple of times on TRF of my indifference toward anything Ceramic, but thats just me and my opinion, so, it has to be Daytona, unless you went for an older Sub. or a Sea Dweller, then there is serious thought needed.

Daytona is a very iconic watch... I don't know why since it has no technical merits aparts from advertizing but after the sub, it is probably the next image people have of a Rolex...

No nothing technical...apart from what many consider the finest movement made.

I'm not sure why many consider that. Some people say that but no more explanation. It has fewer components than other chronographs but I don't think that alone makes it the finest (I don't even know what is the definition of finest).

if i may speculate:

*relative to other chronographs simple construction of movement and easier serviceability (i know some say not a big deal but i say it is as watch techs are not always as passionate about your watch as you are)

*rolex proven robustness

*and all important common perception of said "finest" quality

Sub C for me. IMO the Daytona's bezel scratches too easily which annoyed me no end. Found myself using the Daytona less and less over the 10 years I owned one. Eventually flipped it for the TT Sub C.

Don't decide based on which holds value better or is more sought after.

Which one do you want more right now...? They are both fine watches and for different reasons. Chances are you may end up with both down the track.

The Sub is a more practical watch. But the Daytona has the wow factor. So it depends on what you want. But to be fair, both will keep you happy for a lifetime.

Got to love the black SS Patrick! I tend to move between the subC and Daytona the most now out of my rolex. Especially since I changed the dial.

Both great watches to have to choose between!

I have both. If I were to own just one it would be the new ceramic green sub. It gets the most wrist time. I know I'll be in the minority here. If you longer term wanted both then get the daytona now since it will be tougher to get later.

Both are great watches, just try them both and decide which one you like best. Don't think of re-sell value.
