Your experience with Rolex

I just purchased a Rolex GMT II SS last week, and I am wondering if Rolex ever helped you folks with getting more businesses? I would like to hear some stories of how your Rolex helped in your career? life? relationships? etc...

Cannot understand why any watch should get you more business or a better career surely its the man that gets the business and his drive to get a career. Most non WIS types would not even look or care what watch you was wearing.Don't think by wearing a Rolex is going to some how exalt anyone into a super business man or woman. Or get a better career or relationship by just wearing any brand of watch its the person that does that and not a brand of watch..

Can't see why wearing a specific watch would help you to anything except knowing what time it is.

I am from Hong Kong and maybe my culture is different. I heard stories from friends in China, and how they deal businesses is totally different. If you don't own a nice watch or drive a fancy car, there is no way they are going to do business with you.

sometimes it happened in my country too. Wearing a nice watch, suit, or driving a expensive car, etc just to impress client or everyone we business with. sometimes it makes sense for me

I guess what you meant to say is when you do business with your business partners or clients, people look at your presentation. Perhaps wearing a nice watch is part of the business attire that projects a stylish, respectful image that in turn gives them confidence in you. I think most business men/women in the Far East are not narrow minded or pretentious like some of you may have unintentionally portrayed them.

It's different in the far east - businesses revolve around your status, unfortunately..

I see logical opinions from both sides. But I wear a Rolex for who I am. I feel comfortable having it on my wrist. I'm not pretending to be who I am not but I just feel comfortable having a Rolex on my wrist.

My Rolex watch helps me know what time it is while I go about my life and nothing more. To expect anything else from it is absurd and insecure.

It's probably a cultural thing. In the West, I don't think there's as much emphasis on this sort of thing. ( getting business b/c you wear a Rolex, forging a relationship because you wear a rolex) I just don't think it happens.

As some have stated, the VAST majority of people don't even notice what what watch you wear.

It matters

First impressions are very important in business, career, and relationships. The watch is just one aspect. For men, it is probably one of two pieces of "jewelery", second to the wedding band. It is what people see when they shake hands, wave and pay the restaurant bill. A nice watch (needn't be a Rolex) makes a statement about the wearer.

Rolex being the luxury brand and popularity that they are, people know of it. Non WIS know the Rolex brand. People in New Guinea probably know the Rolex brand. People can identify better with you if they see something in common or recognizable. They may not interprete a Rolex in the same way that we do, but will get some kind of input. It is nothing more then a well-know luxury brand.

The wedding band on men probably speaks louder about the wearer then a watch. Statistically speaking, men wearing wedding bands during interviews have a better chance at the job then someone single.

Women look at other women's diamond ring. Men notices the difference when a woman is carrying a LV bag vs. Totes. A well put-together person has a better chance in careers, life and relationships. A wristwatch is just a piece of that.

My first Rolex was given to me by my girlfriend at the time who is now my wife and the mother of my children.

This makes sense to me. I have recently been in two separate negotiations where I met the people for the first time. There is always some sizing-up of each other up during introductions. In both situations they seemed to want me to see their watches - one was a huge U-boat, the other a Panerai. I didn't intentionally try to show them my watch, but in both cases saw them looking. Not sure it helped at all, but it felt better wearing my Rolex than had I not been wearing it.

The only time it has obviously helped me was when trying on watches. The salepeople almost always pick up my watch and take a look. From then on they realize I am serious, and hence are more willing to accomodate me.

These types of things DO make an impact. The question is what the impact is. Many people feel more confident when wearing nice clothes or a nice watch - these people might have better reactions from others in part due to that confidence. If you feel more confident, then that might be a good reason to wear one. However, if you just feel more snobbish, then the watch is just scratching an itch to be better than other people - that type of energy/attitude will scare off people, just the opposite of what you want.

Also, let's just say it: plenty of women look at watches as part of the overall masculine package. The reverse is often true too: some guys don't explicitly care about certain women's shoes or bags or whatever that women wear, but they ALL can see a hot, well-adorned, well-manicured woman. The Rolex has the same effect if you're a decent, well-put-together guy. It's the only piece of jewelry a man wears, other than a wedding band. If you want a watch, buy a watch; if you want a handsome adornment, buy a Rolex or other beautiful watch.

I can honestly tell you that when I went to go buy the car the sure acted diffrently when it came time to negotiate the price after I rolled up my sleeve and made my sub visible .In which I saw the sales rep acting very diffrently afterwards.

I had a good laugh when the salesman who sold my truck to me was staring up my shirt sleeve to see the crown on my watch. He was trying so hard to see what I was wearing I wondered if he was going to rest his chin on the table.
Ridiculous.

Edit: Wore the Tudor that day. That thing is so anonymous. Nobody knows what it is. LOL
