Would you trade a Speedy and $2000 for an almost new Submariner?
A friend offer to me to trade my 1976 Speedy plus $2000 for a 2010 Submariner no date. I am really hungry for a Sub, I like the Speedy I wind it every day but I only use it once in a month. Any advise? Thanks.

Its a fairly even deal imo, the 76 Speedy is a great watch but if you're not wearing it every day you might get more enjoyment out of the ND sub.

That 1976 Speedy would be hard to part with, and not as easy to buy back if you wanted another.
Subs are all over the place, you will never have a hard time finding one at a good price. Just my $.02

I own both a '69 Speedy Cal.861 and a 2010 Sub-C LN. I wouldn't trade the Speedy for the Sub though, since I reckon both are true classics that should have a stable place in everyone's collection. Keep the Speedy and save up for the Sub-C. You won't regret having them both
BTW, I find the daily routine of winding the Speedy a good way to keep my connection with the watch. Call me sentimental, but I like not having an automatic winding. |

If you don't find your self wearing your speedy often, and you think you'll wear the submariner more, do it! Good Luck

I have a 71 speedie, I need an early 70's 1675 but there is no way I would consider trading or selling. Speedie stays and I'm saving my bucks to finance the rolex.

A 76 speedy, keep it you'll regret it.
Why do you only wear it once a month? Fund the sub another way, or save and wait. |

Why aren't you wearing the Speedy more? Why would you wear the Sub more than the Speedy? If you are going to only wear the Sub once a month too, just keep the Speedy.

I wouldn't do it. Keep the Speedy. I think you will regret it later if you make the deal.

Sounds like you might have a rare Speedy on your hands. Maybe save up for the SUB...

I do not believe a 76 Speedmaster is so rare.. probably the models closer to 69 pre-moon casebcaks are the ones more "rare".
I think it might be a good trade..

ND subs are plenty avail, and can be had for a good price typically aound 3200-3500. I would just buy a preowned one for a good price, then you would have 2 great watches in your rotation. The key here is, are you going to miss the Speedy when its gone... i think a lot of people here have learn it the hard way.

Trade a Speedy for a NO DATE Sub? If it was an even swap, No Way. With $2k on top? Maybe. You could buy a more versatile chrono (quartz) for the difference.

1. If you could keep it and acquire the SUB, that would be the best way to go for sure!
2. Assuming that is not a option, I have owned many Subs and the watch will never let you down. If you would be able to wear the sub daily then go for it!

I would
Speedy can be had for around 2k give or take. That would be like getting a LNIB ND Sub for 4k. Good deal..
