What watches do REAL Divers use?
One of my favorite TV shows is on the National Geographic channel... a Canadian production called The Sea Hunters. For those unfamiliar, the tagline is something like 'adventures of famous shipwrecks'. They find a historically important shipwreck that perhaps hasn't been found or the reason it's at the bottom is undertermined, locate it, dive it and summarize their findings.
It's very good and the 'cast' includes author Clive Cussler, pro diver Mike Fletcher and Vancouver Maritime Museum guru and marine archeologist Jim Delgado. Last night I was watching and the watches on Fletcher and their dive co-ordinator was plain as day to recognize. The watch of choice of The Sea Hunters while actually diving? The Seiko Orange Monster. Like I've said over and over, that watch is the most bang for the buck and the best priced sports watch with an auto movement around. |

Well John have used SD and Sub,and my very first dive was with a Casio
it done the job.But my favourite is the Citizen Pro master Aqualand 11 gives you a lot more diving related information, that a simple time laspe bezel. Most divers today use computer and a watch as back up.Most of what I have seen most hobby divers wear, is either a Seiko or Citizen I have seen very few that wear high end diver brands and use them for scuba .

Even a rich professional diver will still opt for a 'cheaper' dive watch that will do the job equally well. JJ

It was a comparison....between the fact that Rolex is now being used more just for 'show' rather than a 'tool' as it was in the past. I personally baby my Rollies so would never even dream of roughing it up as a tool watch. Cheers - JJ

I put 70-80 dives on a Citizen Aqualand Duplex. Great watch! Today, I finally picked up a black monster. The price was too good to pass it up and I love it!

I'm not a diver, well not a sea diver. My friend Mark dives a lot and has just got his Dive Master certificate. He uses an Omega Seamaster Auto as a backup. It has leaked once already and after having it repaired it has stopped again this week. I think I'll suggest he gets a Casio.

Yes, Seiko are probably the diver's choice, but my choice of Seiko is more "airborne."
