Rolex at Costco in the USA

I was just at a new Costco and saw a Mens 18K YG Date-Just with silver diamond dial. I asked the clerk about it because although Costco Canada sells Rolex, this is the first time I've seen or even heard of Rolex at Costco USA. She stated that they only get a few, because Rolex won't sell to them directly for sales in the USA, so they have to use other sources.

Costco brings a grin, it's a subculture to itself. I can just see them now in twin bubble packs for a perceived discount price.

Perhaps, the two gallon size of Datejust. I have seen Brietlings at the local Costco.

It believe comes with a Costco warranty. It's no different than other other NIB Rolex watches obtained from a gray market dealer. It may be different because Costco has lifetime satisfaction guarantee on everything except some electronics.

$16,999 I don't know if that's good or bad, as I haven't priced an 18K Date-Just at the AD lately.

MSRP for a new Men's DJ 116238 is $26K with Jubilee Bracelet.
Base on the price of $16999.00 you mentioned it is a whopping 35% off MSRP.
This DJ was made from 2005 onwards so it will be a good deal if this DJ has the random serial.

I was told at my local Costco (by a manager with 15+ years of service) that he had only seen a Rolex being sold once. He claimed that it was acquired by Costco because they promised to adhere to AD pricing criteria. Costco then undercut AD pricing and Rolex got upset and pulled the account. It is hearsay so take it for what's it worth but I have never seen one in person at Costco and I a,ways browse the watches. I've seen Breitling, Cartier, Tag, IWC, and even VC at my local store.

Yeah I was quite surprised. My wife saw it first as we always browse the watch display. We have 3 Costcos in town, and I've seen most of the brands you mentioned, and I even saw a Zenith Chronograph once, but never a Rolex.
If I had a camera I would have taken a picture and posted it here. The managers probably wouldn't like that, and there is probably some rule against photographing merchandise for sale.

Costco here only sell Tag Heuer

Glad they don't sell Rolex that would devalue the brand

Costco was selling Omegas in the gray market. They were sued by Omega, and Costco lost. If Costco operates as a non AD and continues selling more Rolexes like this, I imagine they will be sued by Rolex as well.

I believe Costco won on appeal so they are still selling omegas. if there are any JDs on the TRF maybe they can answer this for sure but I want to say the ruling set the standard for selling products such as this. I have seen a couple of rolexs here in NorCal costcos

I always check out the watches at Costco but I've never seen a Rolex in their case; just plenty of TAGs and once an IWC.

I don't mind buying a Rolex from Costco...as long as they could beat the prices here on TRF......but I doubt that they could.

I can't imagine Rolex would let a thing like this go on for a very long.

At the recent Dallas GTG, I heard the Rolex USA sales rep say something about taking the Walmart/Sam's Club folks to court (and winning).

If I remember, he said that Rolex's position is that gray watches are here illegally.

Rolex will trace the serial numbers back to the AD and it will not be pretty.

It depends on your definition of grey market. Around here the term is often applied more liberally to include any channel other than the official AD network. It would only be here illegally if it was not originally imported to the US by Rolex USA. If the watch originally came from a domestic AD, then I'd think it's legal.

I bet they dont even give you a bag. They just put it in the shopping cart in front of yours after checkout. Then I hate to have to show my reciept to the guy who is not even counting items in your shopping cart. I hate dealing with that guy everytime. Its like a polite way of costco or Sams club saying we think you are all a bunch of crooks.
