Daytona: Used vs. New?

Ok, would like your advice.
......2006 D Serial Number White Gold Daytona (used from private party, mint, originated at AD): $17.9k

or

2007 Z Serial Number White GoldDaytona (new, from AD): $22.3k.

which would you go for? is the used one a good deal or too much? good thing is if i buy the new one it may give me a better chance from the AD to get a stainless steel version......

Welcome to TRF, pal.

Want an absolute reply? For that kind of money.....NEITHER!!!

For that kind of $$$, you could get yourself a couple of beautiful Rollies and still have plenty of cash burning a big hole in your pocket.

I'm not sure what kind of break you can get from an AD on a new WG Daytona, but assuming the D is MINT I'd go that route.

Whats the diff between a D and a Z and an SS? also from year to year have the models change since 2000 when they started using all rolex parts?

Absolutely agree. I spent about $7,000US for this:

and for the remainder of what supra2nv quoted on the second WG Daytona, I got these as well:

18K is a very fair price on the LNIB! and I'd choose a White Gold Daytona over anything else in the Rolex line up. "THe Value Of Anything Is How It Makes You Feel"

Good Luck

Now wait a minute, Steve. That meteorite-dialed Daytona of yours is a special case. It just happens to be one of the most beautiful Daytonas ever made. So yes, the price is worth it on that baby!!!

I would buy a 2000 model BMW 3.20 CI (E46) here if I would have that money instead of spending it for a watch but when the shining of ROLEX tells my eyes the beauty and its so nice to look to a ROLEX and feel the pleasure but till price 7000 it's ok over 8000 will be a disaster in my opinion, better to go with GMT Master or Submariner TT versions gold+steel.

what is everyone's opinion between the silver, black, and meteorite dials?

Meteorite 1st prize, black a close 2nd prize, silver a distant third.

Personally, it would be the '509 all day long. A far, far better investment than the BMW as well.

Agree. The Meteorite is one of a kind. Every dial is different. Just an amazing stunning dial.

Out of these two options the 2006 at $17.9k is the better choice by far, providing it is the same dial (that meteorite dial is worth the extra $$).

Actually, there is a meteorite-dialed WG Daytona Z-series for sale on eBay for $16,995. Now THAT'S A DEAL!!!

It's a beauty, Allan, but with it being a croc strap '519 the price is just pretty reasonable as opposed to the absolute bargain it would be if it were the '509 all gold version.

does that mean the $17.9k for the black dial is a bad deal?

You'd be saving in the region of £2K [$4K] than if you bought it brand new from a friendly AD with a discount obviously your mileage may vary on what sort/scale of discount "you" could achieve

Have you still got yours, Steve? If so, are you still smitten or does your eye stray elsewhere?

No. It is the better deal by far of the two and IMO $17.9 is the lowest price by a margin that I have ever seen a '509 listed for sale.

If I were able to get a '509 for £8k in the UK (2006 model papers) I would be on it and the 116710 or 718 would be on its way out of the door in a flash.

No to EBay. We have been down that road already. EBay is for cheap purchases that you can afford to get ripped off on. Not a grail WG Daytona.

I always say buy new from an AD. There is nothing like that experience.

There is in my opinion nothing like the piece of mind and back up service you get from a trusted AD. If I was going to plunk down 20K I would only do it with an AD. This is a once in a lifetime purchase for most of us.

I like the new clasp on the Z serial number Daytona as well.

Don't get bit, don't get burned and know what you are getting with a 2 year warranty. Buy new I say.

I don't think I would buy anything so nice and spendy that was not new. I would be the first wrist that it was on. I think I would keep a Rolex like that for the rest of my life, so I would not cut corners.

well said!! for that price i would get one new without a doubt ......and im guessing this is a keeper anyway and not somethign that u would flip.

by the way that is one of the best looking rolex in my opinion ... i dont normally favour black dial but daytona white gold with black is the way to go

let us know which u decide in the end

happy comtemplating

Yes. It is a good deal on the watch you want. You'll save enough to buy that stainless Daytona later if you choose. But, the white gold Daytona is beautiful and you may not want the stainless after wearing it.

MSRP is $27.9k

I negotiated $22.3k from an AD.

used is $17.9k with full paperwork.

just want to clarify the scale of the savings i have negotiated...

p.s. the difference between the 2006 white gold and the 2007 is nothing, they have the same features from what i understand, but correct me if I am wrong.

If you buy at $17.9k there is VERY LITTLE depreciation left in that watch, EVER.

If Rolex keep with their 8% price increases it may even be worth a little more than you paid for it in a couple of years, as well as the joy of ownership of such a fine watch.

Do it, I say.

The only difference 2006-7 would the the omission of the rolexrolex on the chapter ring (possibly) on the 2006.
