The supply is restricted but the "2 a year" rumour is false. Some ADs get as many as 25 a year, my local AD gets about 8-10 but has a list of 50+, hence the 7 year wait.
You can purchase one with ease but you would have to source it from one of the non authorised dealers and pay $2k+ over list.

It really depends on the AD, some may get that number, some get none and some get more. It all depends on each AD and what their sales are like. ADs that do a lot of business are more likely to get more. But in either case, it would be difficult to get one if you're not on the waiting list especially at MSRP unless you have a good relationship with the AD.

It works like this: the more Rolex an AD sells, the more Daytonas he gets.
I was visiting probably the tinyest of Rolex dealer in Gania, Crete, this summer and was lured inside by a green Sub in the window. Quite unusual actually as I consider the green Sub a rather rare bird. I was wearing my Daytona and the sales lady was very impressed. Leaving the shop I wondered how many Daytonas this tiny tiny shop gets, if even any each year?

I was thinking.
He wants a daytona Does he want you to buy it for him? If so, he must be a hell of a guy.

Get on a plane and go to Las Vegas. They have a million ADs there, including a Rolex store in the Wynn. Despite the fact that they are exlusively a Rolex dealer, they had a somewhat limited selection of Daytonas. But other ADs in the other hotels also have a selection - and there's no waiting list.
I was just there a couple of weeks ago and saw a bunch of Daytonas. The Rolex store in the Wynn had my favorite - the meteorite Daytona, but they only had it on the brown strap. They could have ordered the black strap for me but I didn't want to wait.

...So Vegas AD's have Daytonas with no waiting list, and being AD's must sell at retail?..Just seems unlikely,or am I not on the same page?

from what i understand they get more daytonas in vagas becouse of sales(tourists casinos you know...) where as smaller ad's get less of them...some dont get any! so in vagasa wait list is somewhat useless when you think of it no?

Ayisha, Las Vegas is like a mecca(sp?) for Rolex aficionados dealers... he'll find what he's looking for there. The fact that most shoppers are passing through pretty much assures there aren't going to be waiting lists and the like.
This is the second reference I've seen to serial numbers and papers vs. online. Do online dealers erase the serial numbers?

Ive heard that auth dealers arent supose to sell at discount so when they sell to unath. dealers they may file off the number to protect there id...but then rolex wont repair it or honor a guarantee. not to mention resale is a b@#$%

Who could bring it over his heart to take a file and go at it on an SS Daytona?

interesting.. i've been dealing with both ads and non authorized dealers for a few years now (albeit not on the internet) and none of the watches I've seen have come without serial numbers.
thanks for answering my question and i hope your b/f gets that Daytona.

Well, to be honest, me too. But does it really matter what avatars members use? For example IMHO, wearing sunglasses on the avatar adds to ones anonymity. But also sucking on a lollipop
Well, I dunno

Welcome to the forum and good luck in finding the Daytona. You may want to take a look at a Two Tone (TT = Stainless Steel and Gold) Daytona with a white Mother Of Pearl Dial. About the best looking Rolex I have seen in its price range IMOP. The Avatar that JJ was referring to is the picture of the woman in the sunglasses that you have selected to link to your forum ID. |
