Anyways, they sighted a 14 inch wide fin and they've closed the beach from tower 13 to tower 18, so if ya wanna go swim, maybe better try the Cove or the "Childrens Pool"

Randy- I never realized you were from Encinitas! Very cool...I am from Redondo Beach and family is in Cardiff. Love Encinitas!! Juanitas Carne Asada Burritos my favorite! Fidels in Solana Beach my favorite sit down!! Be safe out there- no surfing this weekend unless you surfing Hospitals as no big shark getting by that table top reef!

That looks like a Sand Tiger Shark which is much different than a Great White. I dove the Benson an upside down tanker off the coast of North Carolina and ran into a couple of those guys inside the wreck and with all those teeth and them being cornered I was having visions of Jaws. There are so many of them that hang around the wreck that you can swim along the keel and pick up their teeth for a souvenir.

I was going to cage dive with some great whites a few years ago. The wife was a little opposed to that plan. I still regret not going though, it wasn't cheap, but probably worth it for the pure strangeness of it.

I get the chills whenever I see those things. I've done the pansy version scuba diving with the sharks in the Bahamas (pretty cool, about 50 or so came in for the feeding our guide did), but there's no way I could jump in knowing one of those was down there!

Maybe when I was younger...I'm older, wiser, and lost all my desire to be scared.

How long after a sighting should you stay clear of the water? I ask b/c I'm going to be down in San Diego (rented a house on Mission Beach) in a couple of weekends with a group of buddies, and a number of the guys were going to try surfing. If no further shark sightings occur in the next couple of weeks, is it "relatively" safe?

Whats the problem, just go for a swim. A friend of mine just paid big $ to hand feed Tiger sharks while diving in Fiji.

They looked so gentle on the video he showed me

The problem with hand feeding tiger sharks is that you only have two hands to feed them..

We've been swimming with great whites for years over here on cape cod. Some have even trained the sharks to do tricks like flipper the dolphin.

Man I would love to do this!! As I have no dive experience the extent of my real life shark dive experience has been limited to the sharks deep dive at Sea World in orlando. Their is a couple Sand Tigers in there and they are a little intimidating but what a cool experience to get to dive (in a cage) with these awsome creatures. I loved it, it was a birthday gift from my fiance! I knew she was a keeper

I recommend it to anyone who has a desire to dive with sharks but does not know how to dive.

You don't need experience for a cage dive. It is not even avreal dive as you don't really go beneath the surface.
I tried an indoor aquarium once and it was fun but it is no substitute for the real stuff. Sharks are amazing.

I just noticed in that last pic the people dont have scuba gear on! I thought the only way to do this was to be a cert. diver whoa! I am looking into this.....so gonna do this within the next few years!

You can do it off the coast of San Francisico. I recall it being close to $1000.
