Is this sub real?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...:X:RTQ:US:1123
The guy listed it twice with different user names. First two sold, but it seems like it's up for sale again. What helps you determine whether a sub is real or fake? |

I've purchased Datejusts from 0 feedback before that were checked and were authentic; however, I don't know how to distinguish a good Submariner. All sellers have to start somewhere. Are there any tell-tale signs other than low feedback?

Thanks Tudorman! I'm fairly new to the submariner market, is there anything in specific that you look at? I know some people here on the forums are easily able to distinguish whether a watch is fake simply by looking at the dial. I tried searching the threads to find a good way to compare fake subs to real ones but had no luck.

...some are VERY obvious.
...the rest is going to take you TIME and learning from here. ...picking up a book or two would be helpful to you also. |

Thanks. I plan on staying here for a long time. Hopefully I'll learn a few things and help contribute by removing all the fake ones listed on eBay.

Watch (the pictures anyway) may be legit, but look at the description, then look at the watch. Maybe it was purchased used, but it is significantly scratched from the pictures.
1. Very scratched, not hardly as described. 2. A gift, how many times have we heard that? 3. Lost the box and paperwork, hmmm. 4. johnjohn_1234 looks like a spam account name. 5. Bought one $0.99 cent item to look current and 100%. 6. Not sure about you, but I'm lacking a bit of trust here. The description: Authentic, beautiful Submariner Rolex watch. I purchased it for my husband who wore it less than 10 times. The buyer will recieve a great value in this watch, considering I paid several thousand dollars more than asking price. Took it to jewelers yesterday to have cleaned and looks great, minor surface scratches are hardly noticeable. We are in the process of moving into a new home and the original box has been caught up in the shuffle. Hope to find the box as I continue moving boxes and unpacking. GREAT VALUE...GREAT WATCH! |

please ask them one thing . it is listed as quartz movement. that could be a newbie mistake but i would double check. often bargains can be had from new members if you know what you are looking for

Just an update for you guys. I did go ahead and purchase the watch. I've had a pretty good experience with dealing with eBay customer support so I have no doubt that I can get my money back if things did not pan out.
@toph - I messaged them about the quartz movement, and she said it was indeed an automatic movement and a listing error. I also told the seller that I will be bringing it to a jeweler to inspect the watch for authenticity as soon as I received it and he was completely fine with that. I'm not going to lie, the person's description did throw me off a little, but I have purchased watches from people with worst descriptions (and worst English in general) and 0-5 feedback and the watches ended up turning out to be legit. As soon as I receive the watch, I'll post up some pictures and let you guys be the judge. |
