Hello Gentlemen,

Good Afternoon. I have narrowed down my search for everyday watch that I can wear daily to gym,office weekend etc and not be worried of the wear...Although I would have to mention that I did experience some trouble with my auto aqua terra. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

My thoughts...if you want a watch for "rough" use in addition to everyday wear, go quartz. Lower cost to buy, lower cost to maintain, and more reslient to the effects of hard use.

If you appreciate mechanical watches, then go for the auto.

Both are good choices in an SMP.

x2. good one. i've got a few tissot watches, inexpensive but great style and quality for everyday use. these go on rotation with my (auto) seamaster and sub lv. just to keep them all fresh.

with tissot, if well-maintaineded they can last for over 30-40+ years like my seastar visodate!

My only quartz Omega is this Seamaster Professional (2265.80). I have a Seamaster Professional (2254.50) and a Speedmaster Professional (3570.50). Of the three, the quartz is the most accurate one. I would buy another if given the opportunity. Cheers, Bill P.

The do anything 2264 quartz SMP

The 2254 Auto...sold

Thee classic modern SMP 2531 Auto

and the dressiest of the SMP's 2255 Auto...also sold

get em while you can

quartz is the logical choice, more accurate and cheaper, but there is something so special about an automatic watch, the sweep of the hand, it feels alive. A quartz lacks soul.

The auto will take any punishment you dish out and will have better resale. It will also last a lifetime if you so choose. I only have one Seamaster left, a GMT, its a great watch and very accurate.

Personally I would only have a quartz if it was a new cheapy or a second hand bargain.

I bought my 300m seamaster quartz (blue bond style) on new years eve 1999 as something special to mark the millenium night that i could keep to remember it, almost 12 years of daily beater wear later it's only had one battery fitted in that time and apart from scratches on the clasp is in excellent condition and will be going to my son in about another 12 years. It's a great bit of kit for the price (£500 back then) and keeps much better time than my sub C .

Why would you ever pay Omega prices for a quartz watch?

Here's my advice: buy a nice pre-owned automatic Omega Seamaster, and with the money saved from buying retail, get yourself a cheap, swiss quartz watch for day to day rugged use. You then get the best of both worlds.

Buy the auto, its an Omega Cal 1120, it will outlast the Quartz by far, maintenance is not an issue, if it didn't go 25+ years without a service, its an anomaly.

I know my picture probably says it all but I'd go with quartz. It is indeed very nice to see an automatic watch in action and it's amazing to think that someone thought about putting all those wheels and levers together to make it work but, in all honesty, I think a quartz watch gives you much less trouble and I don't think they should be considered cheap because of that movement.

I would never spend more than a £100 on a quartz watch. For me i love the feeling of an automatic watch and knowing theres gears and that moving inside it.

Even though I am an accuracy freak person and do, indeed, need the accuracy for my job and my life style, I would always prefer the auto version; unless it is a Seiko. For example: The accuracy of my discontinued SBCM023 Perpetual Diver cost me only $250 US and its accuracy is -/+ 1 or 2 seconds a year!

I wouldn't pay more than, say, $300 US for a quartz watch.

So, I would also go with a gently used auto SMP. With the continuous wear the auto movements will surprise you with their incredible accuracy

I think many on here have prejudice against a quartz watch for some reason. I don't know what the price difference is so I don't know what I would choose. I did have a quartz Tag when I was 13. If I remember right it was only like $500. I think that was a pretty good price and the watch was great. Being a quartz it kept perfect time and the battery lasted forever. I don't see an issue in a quartz watch as long as the price is right. The mechanical watches are amazing but I hate having them serviced and there is a lot more parts that could potentially give you issues. My personal opinion is that I like the autos more but wouldn't be totally against a quartz. Good luck with your choice.

quartz , i had a pro i wore every day , but sometimes i would leave it on the dive console and in a day or two or three it was still ticking away , i moved to a sub , but the pro seamaster was a nice daily wear ... i have a cassio i leave laying about now , 20 pounds worth of quartz. its the one i take in the pool too.
