I think that's right Mike. It will only apply to new models, so the existing sub will stand, but maybe in a few years when a SS supercase sub is released it will have a maxi dial.
Nothing is forever, who knows what Rolex might do or not do down the line. I'm sure there will in time be whole new styles of cases, bracelets, movements etc, but these, if the past is anything to go by, many years down the track. |

I do like the maxi dial style, which would be a big point in my decision to go with a Sub LV as opposed to an Exp II.
That said, I think on the slightly smaller-than-Sub dial of the SD, the larger marker indices would make the dial look crowded, like a short but over-developed body builder in clothing that's too small. The Subs, Exps and GMTs could use the maxi dial, but they also work well as they are, so either way for me. I read the time at 04:00 this morning and the lume was still lumming and my old 40+ eyes had no probs.............. As long as a maxi dial doesn't result in a big price hike........... Chris |

Maxi dials are a step backwards, not forwards....The Lume and markers were larger in the 70's and hands were shaped like big swords even earlier. Even on Roman Numeral watlches, the numbers almost touched each other.
Actually, you don't need all that clutter... All you need is hands. I'll bet anybody here can tell time just by where the hands are pointing on the dial - without markers. Actually I have it on good authority that the markers are only there so WIS can check their second hand every few hours with an atomic clock. Do away with the second hand - presto - no need for markers. |

Don't mind if they keep the smaller hour markers, but the larger hands are an improvement. Hope the RSC will soon allow older models to be refitted with the larger hands, just as they refit older models with newer dials.

All new Rolex sports will have the maxi dial except for the SD which is hopefully getting the SUPER maxi dial.

More importantly, when are they going to come up with luminous material that keeps glowing longer than Super Luminova?

EXACTLY! Much better than destroying the already smaller dial of the SD (there wouldn't soon be no more space left on the dial! ).

You posted this yesterday and have still not responded to the numerous requests for your source. As far as I am concerned your credibility is now very much in question. If you do not respond I vote that this entire thread be deleted. I smell BS. |
